I went to a shop to get a quote on installing my new y-pipe (tpp much), and they noticed that my stock y-pipe was glowing red. He asked if I noticed my car losing power, or lunging forward sometimes when I shift. I said yes, and at first he told me there might be something wrong with my cat, and that while I'm doing my Y-pipe myself, I should gut my cat... then he noticed my b-pipe was dented (i'll take pictures when i get back in town).
Now... dented exhaust parts doesnt' seem uncommon, but would it cause my y-pipe to glow red? that's pretty bad huh? Should I get a new b-pipe?

If your cat is clogged or your B pipe is dented enough, it could cause a bad enough restriction that heat would stack in the Y pipe and cause it to glow red.
