If you could help me out with this daniel i would greatly appreciate it. i was told that my timing on my 1995 auto se with 71K miles is off. they said that the stock setting was 15 degrees and that my current timing is at 10 degrees. the person measured it with a snap-on timing gun. i thought that timing was controlled by the computer but the person insists that there is a mechanical way to change the timing. is this possible? and if so, can any shop adjust the timing or is this something that the dealer should do?
thanks again.

You are correct. Ignition timing is controlled by the Engine Control Module. It is not adjustable. If the man with the Snap-On timing light knows how to adjust the timing, let him explain and demonstrate. I'm always willing to learn... but I think he is misinformed.

heheh

maybe the mechanic juss tricked you with the timing gun. On the SnapOn you can advance and retard by pressing + or - on the gun....
he'll prolly set it back to 15 degrees and tell you "Look, i fixed your timing"
