Security system for 96 Max SE.

Hello All,

I have a question then a follow up. I beleive that all Maxima SE came stock with security devices, is this right? I'm not sure cause I bought mine recently.

Also recently when I was comming back from the grocery store, for the first time I just reached my hand in the window, and unlocked the door and got it. Alarm when off but I though it was the old lady in from of me ( which would be weird for a 85 chevy something to have car alarms on it), but I was looking at her she was looking at me, and then I realized it was my car, so I know I have a secuirty system on the car, and if all the 96 SE's came stock with it, then all I should need is to get a new remote thing, and I can use the security system.

Does anyone know who made the security systems or a way I can get anoter decive for my alarm?

thanks

what about programming it?

What about programming it? Cause when I went into nissan to get my car fixed they were talking $110, plus $35 to program it, I was shocked and said no thanks.

Do I need a specific kind for the max or just anyone would do? not to sure on this.

thanks again.

I'm pretty sure I've seen instructions on programming it yourself. Look around the web, or maybe someone else can point you in the right direction. Definitely don't go to stealer, I mean dealer.

How did you turn off the alarm without a remote? Do you just put the key in ignition and it shuts up? Just wondering because I don't have a remote for mine, in case someday I set mine off accidently

Hey, i had a problem with my anti theft system last week and posted here but no one can help.

Anyways my 98 SE had an anti theft system and appearently, somehow i pushed this small black button by the door side next to my left knee.

This set my alarm system to ultra sensitive....

Everytime i open the door from inside, the alarm goes off....open the trunk with the remote--the alarm goes off.

The good thing about it is that everytime you lock you door, it makes a chirp sound telling you the alarm is arm.

Try finding a button on your left side of your driving knee....hold it for like a second of two.

I believe you can also set the alarm without the keyfob by locking the doors from the outside with the key and you disarm it by unlocking the doors from the outside. Did all of you also know that it is impossible to lock the keys in the car if they are in the ignition? Try it, with the ignition off and the keys in the ignition, open the door and try to lock the doors...the power lock will keep popping unlocked. Ah, all you probably knew this already.

thanks for the the info everyone.

Most of the basic info for the Max is in the FAQs at the top of the forum. The keyless entry programming instructions are on the 2nd page.

http://search.ebay.com/search/search...maxima+keyless Get the 95-99 one since other year remotes will NOT work with your car.

After you get the remote and program it, hold down the unlock button and it'll roll down the front windows. They do NOT roll back up with the remote (you have to do it from the inside of the car) so don't fall for the "press the lock button 5 times and it'll roll back up" crap

Good luck!

thanks

thanks all for the help, I cant wait to get it all programmed and working.

JaTaN - I will check the faqs, sorry I didn't think it would have such a spefic ( I thought ) subject there, but I will check there first before posting.

98SterlingMax - I though you were joking about locking your key in the car with the key in the ignition, but seems like your serious I'll try it but with my windows down, just incase . . . I'd feel stupid then.

thanks all for the help again, One final question is there an alterantive place to getting the remote besided e-bay? I'm about to order a new credit card and I know it will be a while before they get it to me, is there a local place I can get it from, or for this specific situation ebay is my best bet?

thanks a bunch.

Dealer (too expensive, but local), eBay (pretty cheap), or the Classified section on this forum (risky, but about the same price as eBay). Just buy it on eBay and make sure the seller takes a money order. You can always use a bank account for PayPal. I use my savings account since they don't charge for electronic withdrawals or deposits
