Short Shift ****?

I think I remember having seen some shift ***** in the past, that promised to mount lower on the shift lever and therefore, slightly reduce throws. Has anyone else seen these? Do they work? (I realize it won't be like a shorter shifter) Where can they be purchased? I can't seem to find them now.

If this information is already available on this site.......I'm sorry. Searches aren't working and I haven't seen anything.

Ive never heard of a Shift **** reducing throws, im sure there are some that sit lower on the actual shifter but I dont see how that would decrease the throw between shifts.

Its impossible to reduce the ACTUAL shift throws by changing the stock ****. You have to actually change the shifter itself.

I used to have a short shift **** as you can see here...

But i have since switched to a pacesetter STS and stock ****...

Looks like I may have to bite the big one and put on a shifter kit. I just don't want to mess with re-shaping (banging the sh#t out of) parts, or a long install process.

I have an SMC short throw. If 0% is shortest and 100% is longest, I have mine set at about 45%. At that setting, coupled with the MUCH shorter section above the pivot point, and my shift **** that is an aluminum ball, that is threaded practically to the top of it, I love the shortness of my shifts.

Just be sure you get some good synthetic gear oil. I highly suggest AMSOIL series 2000 75w-90. It is undeniably the best commercially available automotive gear oil. Oh, and it's blue . . . nuff said

the installation is pretty easy, the thing you may have problems with is getting the cat off, but after that its cake. I've got the pacesetter in mine set, such and improvement over the stock.

I agree, installation is easy. The reason the cat can be a pain is the fact that the bolts are a PITA to break loose sometimes. The only beating required is on the heat sheild for the cat. If you do not wish to put a small dent in the heatshield simply removeit.
Many have done it with no ill effect.
I simply chose to put a dent in my heat shield.

I agree with Sin on using a synthetic fluid. It will make shifting a lot less notchy and smoother.
I also use amsoil and like it.

Nismo, I've got a brushed aluminum Sola Luna with matching e-brake. I love the the Sola with the SMC short shifter. It honestly reduced my throws by like 3" in one shift, 1.5" less travel either forwards or backwards.

I wanted a matching shift **** and e-brake handle. Also, I didn't want those Momo style ones where it vices on. I wanted a shift **** with with a proper matching thread to thread onto the stock shift ****, and thus, sts as well. I found Sola because I was told by some Miata guys that the Sola shift ****, for Miatas, matches the Maxima thread pitch. So I called Sola, they confirmed that it threads, scanned their catalogue, found a matching e-brake handle and ordered it.

While my **** may not reduce the throw distance, it did make my shifter a good deal lower. Here are some pics:

STOCK:

With Sola Luna shift ****:

And now with B&M STS:

I bought the **** off some Miata place online. I love it.

If you switch your shift **** with the brushed aluminum one from the same company, and matching e-bake from the same company as well, those pics could be mine. With my short throw shifter and same shift **** design, the placement of the shifter is about the same as my setup.

I was unaware they made a matching e brake. How much did it cost you? Got pics? How hard was it to install?

About the same as the shift ****. Looks like this.

Removal of the stock handle was harder than installing the new one. Total time maybe 10 minutes.
