minor troubles with 96 maxima

Hi,

Just got a used 96 maxima SE. About 75k miles. A few minor problems:

1. The 12V adapter does not work. The fuse is fine. Anything else to check for?

2. There is no warning beep when I open the door with the headlights on. Normal or is something broken?

3. The temp gage works sometimes, but not always. I have no ideas on this other than maybe the gage is broken.

thanks.

1. check to see if it's connected, there's a plug behind it that people undo when moving stuff and sometimes forget.

2. under the steering wheel area, remove the two screws that hold that dash part on. see the yellowish box? there should be a wire & plug going into that. someone might have forgotten to connect that too.

3. your thermostat is most likely staying open or closed. might want to replace it. (i need to do the same )

the thermostat and gauge are not the same part, if the thermostat was closed your engine would have already overheated, if it is stuck closed your gauge should still show some sign of warming up after a long time

you may want to try pulling the gauge cluster out and checking the temp gauge with a multimeter for continuity. I can't find anything about where the temp sensor is in my haynes manual.

Yikes this car sounds like it's had someone poking around in it who didn know what they were doing! My bet is that you probably have an aftermarket deck and either the installer whiz kid forgot to replug the cig lighter back in, or cut the wires cause he couldnt get them to unhook. you can pull up the trim around the shifter (just pry but be careful) and see if it's even hooked up

Thanks all. I've reconnected the 12 v adapter. The buzzer seems to be properly connected - any idea which fuse it is on? I'll swap the thermostat this weekend.
