Abs

I have ABS on my car and don't really see any great benefits of having it. I am considering getting rid of it.

Would it be possible to convert to non-abs and sell the abs parts to someone wanting them, or even better swap with someone who does want the abs parts

Why would you go through all of the trouble of removing ABS?

ABS will prevent your brakes from locking up...which means you'll won't know what you have until it's gone.

ABS will also give you a break on insurance. If I were you, I'd keep it and be happy.

But, to answer your question: It's not worth getting rid of. The labor involved is more than most would want to go through.

you don't see the benifit? Next time it gets snowy, go rent a car without ABS... drive around.... you'll learn to thank ABS.

I doubt it's 100lbs...

Even if it were, would the weight savings really be worth removing it? I'd go out and get ABS if it weren't so much money. Being able to turn while braking in snow is worth the $$ and weight.

Hell, the brakes themselves would probably save you 100lbs...why not remove them entirely? "I don't want to slow down...I want to go faster!" (j/k by the way)

I would not do that. You never know when you need it, trust me there will be time that you would say what a good thing to have......

You have the modulator which probably weighs 25lbs? the sensors don't even weigh that much.

yes you can stop shorter on dry pavement, but when there is snow/rain/gravel/crap on the road it saves you big time. I've always driven a non-abs car so I am accustomed to pumping the brakes when I start skidding. I would love to have abs and not have to think about how to keep my car going straight while stopping in adverse conditions

well now that I am thinking about it a little more, you would because the friction is greater when the tires are not skidding, so yes it would make you stop shorter. atleast from a physics point of view, I don't have 2 cars to test the theory out.
