1. Do the stock platinum plugs really last 100,000 miles?
2. Where is the fuel filter and is it hard to change?

PLugs can theoretically last forever. As long as they keep the proper gap and don't get corroded... The recommended spark plug change interval is based upon the above factors. A clean running car may never need to have the plugs replaced. Just pull them and inspect-if good, put em back in.

Fuel filter: against fire wall and fairly easy to replace.

about the plugs, don't know who said they last 100K, but they're supposed to be changed at the 60K service, and every 60K thereafter, according to the official Nissan service schedule. but i guess they could last longer, that's just what's recommended.

Even if they say it lasts for 100k, do you really wanna keep'em that long?

Sure, for stuff like belts and pulleys, if they're ok for 100k, that's great. But I dont think anyone here would keep a set of plugs for 100k, because we're car enthusiasts. A friend of mine changes his oil every 4000 miles with Mobil 1. I told him that was totally unnecessary, but you gotta do what you gotta do to make you happy.

Replacing the fuel filter is something which may be done by the home mechanic. It is somewhat more difficult to reach if your Maxima is equipped with ABS.

See http://integra.vtec.net/geeser/megamax/60k_service.html
and scroll down to Step 3, Fuel Filter.

Go to Steve Cutchen's excellent MaxFAQ page:

Click on SUBTOPICS below Maintenance.
