follow the top big hose that goes from your radiator to your engine its right on the top it the biggest hose that comes from your radiator the follow that and u can see 2 little sensors both collant temp sensor replace both I paid like $35.00 for both.

On the 4th Generation Maxima engine the Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor is located in the water outlet tube close to the engine end of the upper radiator hose. There are two sensors in that area. The one nearest the hose is for the dashboard temperature gauge. The ECTS, the one you're interested in, is right next to the the gauge sending unit. There is a good picture of these sensors in the Haynes manual on page 3-7.

 

I just changed mine today for $14 and it fixed my cold start problem.....whoa hoooooo.......now I am happy.....fixed car and newly installed auto dimming comp/temp rear view mirror

 

my max has a special sense of direction and won't need a compass.
