98 Maxima v.s Spec V

How fast are these new sentras?

I know they have much better handling then our maximas but anyone know who would win in a 0-60 race?

btw.. 5 speed maxima.

I would guess the Spec V sentra, its has 165HP, and 175lb-ft torque about 25HP weaker, but the sentra I'm sure is much lighter than us Max's tipping the power to weight scales in their favorite.

sadly I would say the Sentra, thats assuming its going against a stock Max, if the Max is modded then its a new story.

I would disagree. . . with equal drivers the 5-speed 4th gen Maxima should beat a Spec V. Specs with an awesome driver can probably run a 15.4 , a 5-speed max with an awesome driver should run 15 flat.

I raced one tonight.. But it was on a bad road that was curvey. I ****ed up 2nd gear kept my foot on the clutch too long so he took me. Not sure if he was stock.. I have : Y-pipe, Catback Exhaust, Injen CAI, Fidanza Flywheel, Race pipe and an ACT clutch. I dont know why but I feel my low end power is weak or atleast is really bad because it pulls me to the side when I floor my car it used to bunny hop and peel out now it does not do that lets me take her to 6.5k with no problems.

I know for sure that 2gear at 3k rpm I can take a sentra but not sure about 1st gear.

He might of been on the good side of the road and I was just on pot holes.

By the numbers, car and driver did a 0-60 in 6.6 with a new 5 speed 95 Maxima se, I ve seen low 7's with a spec V. Weird because it seems like the V should win with 20 less HP but about 300-500lb less weight? I really don't like that tranny linkage of that specV, very notchy, my max has a much better shift feel, my old classic SE-R had a really nice shifting tranny though.

Spec Vs put down about 145whp and 155tq stock, give or take a few. They weigh 2700lbs dry. Divide it the numbers and you get 18.62lbs/hp and 17.42lbs/tq.

Typical 5spd max puts down 165whp and 175tq stock. The max weighs between 2850 and 3000 depending on year and model and options. Lets give the Spec V the benefit of the doubt and use the heavier max, 3000lbs. Division gives 18.18lbs/hp and 17.14lbs/tq. As you can see the maxima, even the heaviest maxima, has a 2.4% power/weight ratio advantage, and 1.6% tq/weight ratio advantage. These are of course peak numbers and they don't mean everything, but they give you some idea of what we're working with.

I also hear that the gearing of the Spec V 6spd tranny is less than ideal and that doesn't help matters much if that is the case. The maxima has damn near optimal gearing for it's stock power curve so there's another advantage to the max.

All this contributes to the max being a bit quicker than the spec V.

SE-R spec V w/ 6speed runs mid-high 15s stock. 4th gen maxima auto runs about mid 15s stock, 5spd with low 15 possibly high 14s stock w/ skillful driver.

i raced a spec V one time w/ intake y-pipe muffler and pulled about 1 car length by the end of my second gear. i'm auto. and it was a long time ago.

SXN's 97 GXE auto stock put down 146WHP 2 weeks ago on the dyno. i doubt the 5-spd put down 165whp stock though. maybe 155whp-160whp.

either way the conclusion is 4th gen maxima is faster than SE-R spec v.

There are no stock 4th gen dynos that I could find in the dyno slip forum, but I've read of people putting down more than 160whp stock in 4th gens. Lordrandall put down 163whp in his bone stock 92 VE even. I'd say anywhere between 160 and 165 would be normal. 155 is low, that would be 19% drivetrain loss, that's more than a manual transmission loses. 165whp would be 14% loss. Typical manual transmission losses are about 15% so 165whp is pretty accurate.
