Need an advice about steering rack pinion

Hi Guys!

I just got from my mechanics and he says that my rack pinion starts to go bust, i.e. starts to develop a very small thinny leak on drivers side. He quoted me for replacement with labor to be $490 and warranty for 12 months. By the way car has only 55k miles.

Right now he says it will be good for another 30k miles, just add steering oil regularly like every 1-2 months.

My question here, is it woirth to replace now or wait till it is really broken down?

Is the price of $490 the right price for replacement and its not OEM Nissan, it is refurbished by some reputable company.

Thanks for replies!

I agree that price does sound good. A new oem rack is around $1200.00, and there is a lot of work to do to replace it.

BTW, where are you getting your rack from? I going to have to buy one soon....
