Want to polish some engine parts

What's the process on this? and what's needed?

I tried a search, but it's not working and I checked the detailing forum, but didn't find anything.

Thanks
Andrew

To try and help you out, I would guess take whatever you want polished off and take it to maybe a wheel shop and maybe they could chrome it for you. Or some sort of chroming shop, call around and see if you can get someone to do it. Also, talk to araffio. He has had a lot of engine bay parts chromed.

Hope this helps...

Not all of his (Tony's) parts are chromed. Some are polished.

I just want to know the processes

Well i started the process of polishing my intake manifold. Heres my advice:

Remove the manifold from the car. Your back will thank you. I've only got about 4-5 solid hours total into the job. I thought i could do it with it still in the car. Its possible, but a serious pita. So i bought a spare manifold which i'm gonna switch out with my current one. Then i'll be able to finish mine up outside of the car. Your looking at about 20-25hrs or so to get a mirror finish. Thats from everythign i've read online and other people's experiences.

Lots, and lots , and lots of sandpaper is needed. A buffing wheel on the end of a drill would make things go faster. It'll be much easier i think with the manifold off the car. Should go alot faster. Just take your time and try and get it as even as possible.

I'm gonna wait until it gets warmer to attempt to remove my manifold. I cant afford alot of downtime so i hope the removal goes smoothly. Hope yours turns out good.

^ Pretty good info there, definately get a spare Intake manifold, or remove yours and get at it. Also a drill with a buffing wheel (I used 3m's buffing wheel) will help quite a bit. The rest is pretty much sandpaper (600-2000 grit). This is a pretty long process.

Other than the manifold....you can polish up all the other metal under the hood pretty good with just a rag or two and some Mother's Mag Polish. This will not scratch up the metal, but will give it a good shine. Gets rid of the tarnish on the a/c piping and stuff. I did it to mine, and it looks good.

On the intake manifold, you will end up wasting your time and $$$. To get that mirror shine, you really need floor standing buffing wheels and air tools. Just pay a pro to do it, you will be much more happy with the results.

I know the intake manifold would take a long time because of all the contours. I was thinking of the valve cover (not sure if that's what it's called.) and the timing chain cover.
