I have a new stereo coming in the mail and downloaded instructions from INstallDr. thanks to Daniel Martin. Instructions call for an antenna adapter and universal wiring harness. Local parts store had NO clue... I will go to car audio shop for the parts, but is this worth my installing or should I let the shop do it...$50.00? I have the $$ just enjoy doing things myself!

Call Crutchfield (http://www.crutchfield.com) for the antenna adapter and the harness.

And install it yourself. Easy as pie. Save the $50 and buy something else with it.

a couple things on stereo install

1. the antenna adapter and wiring harness were $10 each at Best Buy. I actually just asked for a wiring harness, and the dude actually knew that I would need an antenna adapter, so I bought that too... he was right.

2. The install isn't too bad, but...
a. The screws that held my my factory Bose system in the dash were an incredible bitsh to get out. I ended up stripping 2 of 'em. Be very careful removing the screws

b. Also the bracket that holds the deck is rather large and has lots of sharp metal edges, if you're not careful where you put it, it'll scrape up your dash. I ended up scratching the pop-out compartment and the black trim around the shifter. Joshua Tree fixed that though.

3. $50 isn't too bad, and if anything happens, they're responsible, not you. The only problem is sometimes they take forever cuz they have alot of other cars to do in front of yours. Oh, you'll get there first thing in the morning, sure... but there will already be 3 or 4 cars still there from the previous day. Just do it yourself, it's prolly a 2-3 hour job.

Good luck

I installed my own head unit, and I just picked up those adapters at my local car audio store. The ones around you maybe wanted you to get it installed there. I am not the strongest guy around, so I couldn't get the screws off of the stock radio, so I took it to some guys I know at an installation shop and they took the screws out for my. If I remember correctly, they just hit the screwdriver with a hammer to prevent it from stripping, and then they got it out. Other than that, installation is a breeze.

Thanks!

Appreciate your inputs! I think I will do it myself and if I have problems, I can always take the pieces to my local stereo shop.

hey phat...

I also replaced the speakers because I also put in amps and I wanted speaks that could handle the power.
I'm pretty sure there's an adapter that will let you use the bose speakers with an aftermarket head unit, and I think crutchfield sells them, sorry don't know much more than that.
On a related note, you'll also want to buy a 1-din size adapter to go under the deck or you'll have a gaping hole in the dash. The one I got from Best Buy is just a pocket that has brackets on the side to hold 3 CDs but is empty in the middle so you can put your smokes/remote/gum/shades/9mm or whatever else.
Good luck

Phat

If I were you I'd just sell the Bose and speakers on ebay and buy some nice POlks or something. You may even be money ahead doing it w/o all the hassle nas I've seen them sell for $200 for head units and $100+ for 2 speakers. The EX602a Polks I bought sound GREAT! I am putting Blaupunkts in the doors...
