Top Speed of a STOCK 4th Generation 5-speed Maxima?

Anyone know this offhand?? Just curious.

I know that some GXE's have a governor. The SE's and the GLE's do not.

BTW, I checked the FAQ's and couldn't find anything on this topic. Maybe I didn't look hard enough or am just plain blind.

A modded 4th gen like nealoc 187 or dave B will probably hit mid 150's

Only some gxe's had/have limiters because they came from the factory with economy tires that weren't speed rated as high. It was just a safety issue.

Where did you hear that? It's the same as driving at redline for a long time, or jitting redline in any gear.

wouldnt bigger rims make your top speed higher? Cause it has to cover more disctance in the same amount of time.

Since the speedo only goes to 140, how do you know it was 142? Just curious.

I wouldn't advise any one go over 120. My friend was going that fast and guess what, he tried to slow down but at that speed the brakes fade in seconds. Stock brakes at least.

I've had mine up to ~145 (keeping pace w/a buddy of mine), but I can't say that was completely level ground. I felt I could've gone faster, but I didn't.

137-142 from various magazine tests, if that means anything. Even if you have mods you'll still be limited to that because the torque curve is dropping like a rock above 5000 rpm and 5th gear is still very short. In other words, you're running out of gear. Yeah, guys with the tons of extra top-end from the MEVI could probably hit 150.

I wouldn't recommend trying it though. This car is extremely lightweight and will bounce around a bit and the skippy rear beam setup doesn't help matters either.

did you guys top it going downhill or uphill. It's a LOT harder pulling the caruphill to 140 than it is at downhill speeds. I can pull 120 easily with a light foot going downhill.

my car has been up to ~120 and it shifted into 4th gear cause I didn't take the OD off. Its pretty nice how fast our cars get up to speed.

Yeah it was on mostly flat and downhill mostly uphill is a little slower to pull but it still pulls ,when you get above 120 or so the auto shifts to OD and the rpms come back down around the same as going 60 or so ,it fells like its never going to stop pulling i get a little freaked around 135 or so and after i hit 140 I get out of it .At the time I had HAI and Y-pipe rolling on 225/235/40's mounted to stock 2k3 wheels .

Before you hit people and accuse them of illicit drug use, find out if you understand what they are saying.

He is referring to nealoc187...another .orger

whats the point in going that fast? if a tire blows at that speed, yer F'd. If a cop catches you at that speed, yer F'd again. I just enjoy the knowledge that my car COULD go that fast, but i love my baby too much to put her through that test, she's seen 115, but thats about it.

I've hit over 140 mph in my Max but it was completely stock at the time....for some reason I can't get that speed any longer with the mods I've installed. Weird, just weird...

I thought any cop / ticket for over 100 MPH is a major ***-kicking by the feds- meaning its a federal offense and its likely that they will take your baby right away from ya.. Thats why I never go over 100...

..unless Im at a track

At 115 you're still f'd buddy :)

Either rate to contribute, after owning my Maxima only 3 days, the farthest I have pushed it yet is to about 105 mph, simply because I was curious to see how fast I could go in third gear (~99mph) but then my exit rolled around :(

Its a thing of beauty how these cars can travel that fast, feeling like you are floating on air, its almost hard to tell you are going 100+mph, except all the cars you fly by :)

True, I don't think SE's have a governor. Those of you from chicago - I went up to 145 on 294 by O'hare, 7 lane stretch. I only did 145mph, but I could have gone more it's just that I was a little hesitant.

I think you guys are just being moderate. I hit 140 in my car and acelerated another 1100 rpm's and had more to go but my car was'nt really pulling it than. I hit the brakes and it stayed on the stoper for a second befor it went down. I was way above 140 probaly 150 or so. And now I have jwt ecu I can hit 139 if 4th gear than I shift. One with jwt and mevi could nail 160 or even 160+ Just my 2 cents I guess

HA 115...i pushed my good old 1985 Ford LTD to 108mph ... even though speedometer only goes to 85 o.O
(but i was driving side by side with my friends 240sx and he was like WTF, you can push over 100 in your car?)

P.S.: no, it wasnt downhill, it was flat
