Maintenance Q: Idler adjuster arm/pulley replacement

Can the idler-pulley adjuster arm assembly be removed and replaced WITHOUT removing the A/C compressor to loosen the serpentine belt tension, or should I figure on having to loosen the compressor mounting bolts to get the old tensioner out & the new one in?

Any advice appreciated. . .

TIA,

The compressor is completely independant of the adjustment pulley. Just completely remove the bolt holding the pulley on, passenger side bolt and remove the assembly. I had to replace mine because, somehow the adjustment bolt sheared off while I was driving. Suddenly my lights started to dim and the belt was making a weird noise. Popped the hood and the serp. belt wasn't moving at all. I was only 2 miles from home so I drove her with no alternator home and went and picked up the new assembly for $50 at Nissan.

Thanks for the advice - I know the compressor is independent of the adjustment pulley, I just was trying to figure out if I needed additional "play" in the serp. belt in order to get the assembly off & thought the compressor might be a logical place to get that play, if needed.

Thanks for the heads up! I have the assembly in hand, ready to go.

Cheers,
