I only know of 2 people on this board with a high/low kit. That would be myself and Chunger. To pass inspection all you would have to do is just pop your Halogens back in. It's not hard to do.

What sucks now is that Catz has pulled out of the US.

I dont see how you guys can go without a highbeam. I use it daily to communicate with other drivers.. . . if you want improved visibility, why not get H3 HIDS in your fogs? Thats what I plan to do when I come across some extra money. But to each his own.

Why the heck would you ever need them on a daily basis to "communicate" with other drivers?!

Lets see. . . When you let someone make a turn in front of you. When someone veers into your lane. To signal to pedestrians crossing the street. Some people use it to warn other drivers of speed traps. . . Or even when someone cuts you off, you can put your highbeams on, or if someone is driving down a road with their highbeams on / no lights on. Perhaps Im the only one who uses my highbeams daily.

Yes, I think you are the only one who uses them daily.

And none of those are legal uses for high beams.

I agree. Even though I have hi beams... I rarely ever use them...
I'm glad I don't have to live in his area where that is the norm...

I don't see the point of HID's in the fog other than for looks. If you "need" them to see the road along with your regular HID's then you better have your vision checked... My fogs have 85w "gold" bulbs in them when I (rarely) need them in foul weather to improve MY vision of the road.

That's how you can distingush a bad driver from a good (considerate) driver... IMO, Wisky97SE is a good driver... I agree with you on the use of high beams!

Especially on this part: " Some people use it to warn other drivers of speed traps... "

Yes, its really good when someone is coming towards you and they dont have their lights on... you can maybe flash them twice before they go viering off the cliff because your highbeam blinded them.... lol.. j/k Highbeam HIDs would be awsome on those really dark roads... I wouldnt mind them...

A good/considerate driver is someone who illegally uses their high beams???

How do you define "illegally"??

1 When you let someone make a turn in front of you..
2 signal to pedestrians crossing the street..
3 someone cuts you off.. "I'm defining this as letting the person know that could have caused an accidnet and that they need to easy off. Actually I prefer to honk!"
4 someone is driving down a road with their highbeams on..
5 no lights on..
6 *driver in the left (pass) lane is slower then traffic in the right lane.

I guess you are only refering to: Some people use it to warn other drivers of speed traps.. this is not illegal. If anything, this act tells the other person to slow down and chances are that they will continue to drive slower fearing more traps ahead. The person who's speeding is illegal but so is almost everything on your car that didn't come with it. People who take the effort to warn others are good/better drivers b/c it shows they are more alert to road conditions and things around them.. This is good for the public and bad for law enforcemnt, ture, but I'm not goning to complain about that. If you ever drive long distance through some states that are extremly strict with speed laws, then you will appreciate it. Almost (stress almost) everyone who drive long distance set their cruise control above speed limit.. Law enforcement is not out to get you, but just your money just like the parking authority b/c every district/county needs the money. Kinda funny how if you go to court for a speeding violation, you are more than likely to have the points removed as long as you pay the ticket... but I digress.

The high beam is not only intended for use in bad weather or unlit roads...

my 2 cents.

Wow, you spent a lot of time to make a point that you are still wrong on. As I mentioned in a prior reply, EVERYTHING you guys have listed is an illegal use of your brights. If you don't beleive me, go down to your local DMV and get the driver's handbook. Actually I should clarify that I have only read the California handbook so it may be different from state to state. But I doubt it. Anyway, I don't care what you do with your brights, I am not trying to be a "Road monitor" or anything, I am simply stating that the laundry list if high beam uses you guys have come up with are all illegal.

I could not drive without high beams. How many times have you been on a two lane and some idiot in an SUV or other no-fun-to-drive vehicle comes at you and because safe driving is obviously the last thing on his or her mind forgets to cut down their high beams? Legal or not, I'm going to give them a quick blip on the high beams to try to get them to go to low beam. Or the ubiquitous left lane slug (usually in an SUV) who needs to be reminded that there are actually other people on the road that need to get somewhere. Sorry, but high beams do have their place, like it or not...I know these are two points brought up by Phillydonut but I gotta repeat them.

regardless of how illegal or legal it is...i dont think a cop is going to give you a fine for trying to get someone to turn on their headlights that they forgot to turn on cause its dusk, or if theyre is an accident that u just passed and you wana warn people on the opposite side of the road (unless there is an island) of the road hazard....i have been warned MANY times of things like police or hazards...or simply cause i didnt turn on my headlights...all cause someone gave me 2 quick flashes of their highbeams...

And to be quite honest...concidering 99.9% of all you guys in California or any other state for that matter that have y-pipes for instance...yeah, thats not following emition standards in CA....let alone i dont think you would pass smog in other states but im wrong...thats illegal yet you dont lecture on a stupid topic like that...

99.9% of all you speed....thats illegal, yet none of us lecture on that...maybe some of us, but anyone who has an IQ over 1 will keep their mouth shut...

There are MANY logical reasons to use your high beams...whether or not you use them is up to you...whether or not its illegal, it doesnt matter...there are PLENTY of other illegal things you should worry about...

As for the SUVs...yea i hate those damn gas guzlers..hehe and right ther is another perfect example of a good use for them...

Im not saying EVERYONE HAS TO HAVE HIGHBEAMS!!! Im simply stating the fact that they do have a use other than visibility...

i meen honking your horn is actually illegal as well...it actually violates a few laws like, disturbing the peace, or if you use it WAY to much it could actually be concidered an outside speaker...kinda like a loud stereo...

Yet AGAIN we dont lecture on the legality of that...does that mean we should get rid of the horn to reduce the wieght of our cars? i dont know and i dont care...it makes just as much sense arguing about that than it does anything else like the legality of the use of high beams...

its a shame that this thread was actually kinda informative to me untill it started making about as much sense as 2 dogs f u k i n a styrofoam cooler, at least once it turned into such a stupid argument like this... HAHA

First. Calm down buddy. It isn't that big of a deal. Take a deep breath.

Second. I love it when people spend half a page joining in on the 'new' topic just to tell us how we shouldn't be on that new topic.

Third. There was no "lecturing" going on.

Thanks for the laugh. You went from stating 99.9% of us have Y-Pipes to removing our horns to save weight. ???

Good question. Not to 'lecture' as xerox puts it but just to answer your question, here's what I got from the CA On-Line manual.

Honking: You are not to honk for any reason other than to get another driver's attention in order to avoid an accident.

Brights: You are not to have your brights on for any reason other than seeing on a poorly lit road and you must turn them off when following a car 300' behind or approaching an on-coming car 500' ahead.

I did find one clause where it says you can flash your low beams to get other driver's attention "under certain circumstances". Interesting.

LOL! never really looked at it that way, but its funny cause it doesnt make any sense...thats the point i was trying to make...i wasnt getting upset or worked up...

i was just trying to say that using your high beams is a very casual thing...a lil more casual than other illegal things that we do...

As for the wierd post..i think i came back to my computer like 10 times to finish it lol (i was at werk) so now that i read it, i realize it sounds like im kinda "aggressive" if you would call it that, but im not i was just stating that your argument bout how you cant use your high beams (legaly) for any of those reasons is kinda dumb...we have more illegal activities to worry about than flashing our highbeams...
