i know maximas take premium fuel, but im runnin unleaded(regular). is it just performance im missin, or does premium help the longlevity of the engine? also, if i switch do i need to run all the old gas out, or will mixin them not matter..?

Mixing is okay. Running low AKI fuel costs you performance and fuel efficiency. Fueling with 91 AKI will cost you more than 87, but the improved mileage partially offsets the higher cost.

In many areas gasoline is available in 87, 89, and 93 AKI ratings. I fill with equal amounts of 89 and 93. That's the economical way to buy 91 AKI.

I recommend you avoid gasohol.

whenever you use lower octane, the computer adjusts accordinglly to keep the engine from knocking. This can sometimes cause premature wear on spark plugs and in turn air/fuel mixtures won,t burn properly and you may end up getting mil codes for things such as 02 sensors and knock sensors. I myself use 91 or above because of previous problems that might have been caused by my use of the lower grade gas but that,s not 100% definite. You may get away with it for a while but in the long run it could cause problems.
