Torque

Hi,

How important is to apply the exact torque while installing spark plugs and changing oil filter? What happens if you apply either too much torque or too little. All your experienced people please provide this info to this rookie mechanic.

Thanks in advance.

not that important

with sparkplugs just tighten them but dont stand there with your friend and both of you yank at the same time. just use one hand on your rachet with no extra leverage.

with the oil filter just hand tighten then turn another 3/4 of a turn or so

good luck

It is a little more important to be exact with the plugs, because you don't want to break one off inside there. Then, you are s crewed!

I always just tighten the oil filter as tight as I can get it by hand. I don't use a tool. Have had no problems.
