Just thought I would warn all my fellow owners in NY/NJ. Watch out for cops on the Staten Island Expressway. Last weekend on Saturday (friday night) about 1:00am. I had just passed a check points the cops had at the Verrazano Bridge when about 2 miles into the expressway I notice a cop getting on. He immediately pulls me over and begins to tell me that basically every light on my car is illegal. In short he gives me a ticket for my blue side markers, blue fog lights (which aren't really blue at all), my blue indicator lights and also he said that my brake lights which are clear with the red bulbs have a slight yellowish tint to them and gave me one for that. He wrote me 4 tickets. Then speeds off. I plan to plead not guilty get my court date and hope that the cop doesn't show. Anyway just thought I would let you guys know that they are out and for some reason looking to bust *****.

ANYTHING but yellow and/or white bulbs on a car are illegal. The reason they have been 'stepping up' enforcement is because there are now a plethora of cars driving around the city with 'blue' headlights, red turn signals, strobes in the head and tail lights and red side markers. Clearly illegal in NYS as per NYS V&T law.

Article 9 of V&T Law
CHAPTER 775
§ 376. Lamps, signaling devices and reflectors on vehicles. 1. (a) It
shall be unlawful to operate, drive or park a vehicle, except a motorcy-
cle operated during the period from one-half hour before sunrise to
one-half hour after sunset, on any public highway or street in this
state at any time during the day or night unless such vehicle is
equipped with signaling devices and reflectors of a type approved by the
commissioner which are in good working condition; or to operate, drive
or park a vehicle, except a motorcycle, on any public highway or street
in this state, during the period from one-half hour after sunset to
one-half hour before sunrise, unless such vehicle is equipped with lamps
of a type approved by the commissioner which are lighted and in good
working condition.
(b) The commissioner of motor vehicles is hereby authorized and
empowered to promulgate rules and regulations with respect to lamps,
reflectors and signaling devices, their number, type, design,
construction, location, attachment and use on vehicles being driven,
operated or parked on any public highway or street in this state. In
promulgating such rules and regulations the commissioner shall be guided
by the requirements with regard to lights, reflectors, signaling devices
and associated equipment on vehicles of rules and regulations promulgat-
ed by the United States department of transportation.
2. Wiring used on commercial vehicles shall be of such size that when
all connections are made in an acceptable and workmanlike manner the
loss in voltage will not be sufficient to cause a lamp to produce less
than the minimum candlepower, under normal operating conditions, when
the lamp is in good working order. All wiring should be enclosed in
weather proof and abrasion proof cable or conduit except wiring which is
completely enclosed within the body of the vehicle.
3. All lights, signals and reflectors shall be of a type and design
approved by the commissioner. No light having a candlepower rating in
excess of thirty-two candle power shall be used on any vehicle, unless
it is of a type approved by the commissioner. The provisions of section
three hundred seventy-five of this chapter governing the approval of
equipment and the adjustment of headlamps shall apply to the equipment
and headlamps required by this section. The commissioner is hereby
authorized and empowered to adopt and from time to time amend such regu-
lations not inconsistent with this section, governing the size, type,
construction, location, and use of lights, signals and reflectors,
including the exemption of specific vehicles from the requirements of
this section where the construction of such vehicles makes compliance
herewith impracticable, or impossible.
4. All existing provisions of this chapter governing the use of head-
lamps, front parking lamps and license plate lamps and other lamps,
reflectors, lights and directional signals on vehicles shall continue to
apply, except to the extent irreconcilably inconsistent with the
provisions of this section or regulations promulgated thereunder.

Hoping that the cop won't show up will never happen. If you got a ticket on the Expwy, chances are it was a SI Hiway officer, the same as a State Trooper. They almost never miss court dates, and on Staten Island, they will re-schedule 3,4,5 times to be sure that you don't miss your case.
Why don't you just replace the bulbs with legal ones? It's not that hard, and in the long run you're better off anyway. Perhaps I'm too old, but blue bulbs don't do anything to enhance the appearance of any car I've seen them on.
You also need to be very careful of speeding on Staten Island. SI Hiway now has several Laser units running up and down the roads. They also have several hiding places that even I didn't know about until recently (and I've lived on the Island for 30 years, been driving for 15 years) Combined with some cleverly unmarked vehicles, and very low tolerance for speeders, and Staten Island is becoming a new "speed trap"

yes, I'm in SI and I know what you mean...

I've lived here just over a year now and I've about 10 times as many checkpoints and cops looking for speeders as I've seen in Brooklyn all my life...
I've ran into a couple checkpoints before but my car was completely stock, once they looked at my 20% tint, asked me to roll the windows down and said "have a good day"...
There are many camera's for red lights all over the place, my bro ran through one on Hylan blvd, there is spots on Richmond ave. that I know of...

I hate staten island, there is so many places to speed but you are in constant fear.

I am keeping the lighting stock, or just getting superwhite's so they can kiss my ***...

Does any one know if Clear Corners are legal?
I want to get some but I don't want any **** from the cops.
What if I put white bulbs in them?

clear corners w/ yellow or amber bulbs...

should be legal ANYWHERE! The idea is to have amber lighting on the front of your car to signal changes in direction. White lights in clear corners is asking for trouble, but as long as your signals light up yellow/amber, any cop who busts your ***** is just a lousy *****.

Yeah, they should be legal, hell the previous generation Chrysler Town and Country had clear turns. Turn signals have to be yellow in the front and yellow or red in the rear.
