Maxima, 300zx same engene?
Hey,
Is our Maxima's engene is the same engene with 300zx? I was looking to buy a 300zx and the guy who is selling it, told me that Maxima and 300zx have same engenes... is that true?

heck no, its a VG30DE (VG30DETT for tt's), completely different setup. Different cams, intake (has dual tracks), exhaust manifold, with true dual exhaust, different plugs/coil packs, different pulleys, alt, etc. etc. etc. water pump, etc. etc. etc. completely different.
Of odd note though, the VG30 spits out 222hp and only 192ft/lbs of torque, while the VQ30 spits out 190hp and 205 ft/lbs of torque, pretty close to backwards.

the 3rd gen Maximas had an engine very similar to it (VG block), but completely different heads...
the SOHC VG30E engine in them was the same as the older 84-89 300ZX, but that's only 160hp...
the DOHC VE30DE engine used in the 92-94 SE Maximas was a very close cousin to the VG30DE used in the 90-96 300ZX. you can drop in the cams, pistons, crank, ECU, etc into this block and run with it. the heads are smaller than the Zs, but that's really the only difference.. they narrowed the valve angle so they could make the heads smaller in order to cram it in the engine bay of a Maxima.

stay with the maxima. I had a 300zx once (RIP), these things get old fast. If you don't stay up with it's stringent maintance, you will start to hate it after a while. Trust me looks aren't everything. Plus, the maxima is faster than the N/A model anyways. Good luck trying to find a good working TT.
