New I30t is SWEET!!!!!

I picked up my 1997 I30t today!

97K, 5MT, White w/ tan leather. $6,500 and it was mine!

Mods so far: Intrax, KYB AGX, Stillen RSB, MOMO Race Air Leather shifter and pedal set, Brembo rotors, WSP Y-pipe.

To be installed: FSTB, Mille Miglia MM-11 rims, OEM SE white gauge faces, random stereo stuff, PIAA Crystal Ion H3s.

Needed: 97 center console (brown), AE deadpedal.

Driving it today was a sheer joy, even with the rain and a loug poo-poo aftermarket exhaust. Even my wife saw the fun in driving a 5MT after having loved my 96 GLE. The GLE was on H&R and Tokicos, and the I30 is on the Intrax/AGX, and the ride is more stiff but has better road feel without rattling me senseless.

The only mod that I added myself was the MOMO shift ****, which my wife bought for me back when I had a Jeep Cherokee with a 5MT. It sat unused when I had the Max, but I was excited to break it out again. I mentioned it to her in passing (that I liked it), and months later it was under the Christmas tree. You have to love it when your wife/ SO appreciates and supports the modding habit. I need a few more parts to make the I30 complete, but for now she is looking good. I will get some pics up ASAP. I have to say that the VLSD and 5-speed really make the car. I am looking forward to transferring over some more of my mods and getting her on the road in her "final" (yeah, right) form.

I actually like the stock "t" BBS rims, but I like my Milles more, so they will be transferred over as soon as the weather clears up here in the DC area.

is there a difference in driving between your old maxima and the new i30? (like power, handling, overall feeling etc...)

Well, with the 5MT and the y-pipe, the difference is VERY apparent. Power delivery is much more smooth, but at the same time it seems to have more punch overall, most likely because it is easier to keep it on the peak rev range w/ the 5MT than it is w/ the auto.

Handling is a lot different because a lot is different. Tokicos (Max) v. AGX (I30), H&R (Max) v. Intrax (I30), and an Addco RSB & Generic FSTB (Max) v. Stillen RSB no FSTB (yet) (I30) are a LOT of changes to account for. Also, the I30 is still on OEM 15" tires and not the 16" rims w/ low-profile tires that the max had. I will do a more comprehensive comparison when it is all switched over and I have dry weather to play around in.

Needed: 97 center console (brown)
I have the shifter trim from a 97 SE for sale. Not sure if its the same though since it didn't match my 97 GLE.

The I30T is cool. LSD on the Touring. The BBS wheels that look pretty nice. I wish more of them had been made.

I like the looks of the Maxima better, personally. However, I like the available features of the i30t better.

For sheer looks, the max wins by a nose.

Glad to hear you finally got it. If you want some Cefiro headlights, I'm thinking of selling mine and getting the blacked out ones. I could give you a good deal.
With some clear tails and 1 piece headlights I think the I30 looks a good deal nicer than a Max of the same year.

Interior preference is a matter of opinion. I happen to think the Maximas looks more modern while the more squared I30 interior looks very dated..

Pretty much every single body panel except for maybe the roof/doors are different on the I30...

You should be able to take interior parts from the US Maxima and put them in the I30. I figure this because the NZ Maximas have the outside looks of the I30, but inside they use the same interior as the US Maxima

Yep. I have a lot of Steve's (NyCeMaXiMa) old tan interior in my car, including the center console.

Congrats, dude. Welcome to the family. There are only a handful of us with 5spd I30s. I've had mine for over a year now, and I enjoy driving it and it's because the 5spd makes a difference.

Nick-

I DEFINATELY want to do this. PM me and we can tlak numbers. I really want the 1-peice, btu $ is tight right now. We can both win because your regular 1-piece won't go to waste, and I can get a good deal on a gently used set. If you want to do this, PM me and we can hash out the details.

My wife has stolen the I30 2x lately. I have had it 36 hours and already she wants to dive it everywhere...oh well, I oculd have WORSE things happen. At least she LIKES it!

She (and I) just want to swap out the aftermarket muffler for an OEM setup to mimnimize the sound from the WSP Y. I will leave that in there, but the loud-@$$ muffler can take a hike...

Jealousy! LOL

I liked the max, btu I like a lot of things about the I30 better. Not ALL I30s, just this one.

Other than the dash, they are identical. Oh yeah, and the I30 has an electric gas door and a 1-piece rear floormat.
