[Newb] Hypothetically, I want to learn my way around through modding

I'm going to be coming into a 95 gle when my dad picks up a g35x this month. I've been driving this car for four years or so, but I don't know much about it (or in fact cars in general...). I change oil, could probably change a tire in a pinch, and read every goddam article/forum I can on cars/4th gen maximas. So maybe my textbook knowledge is pretty good, who knows.

I'll probably run to autozone and pick up a haynes manual at some point and get my hands changing various other fluids/hoses/belts. But, like everyone else around here, I want to make some improvements to my car. Keep in mind that, like I said, I don't know **** basically.

So how did you get into the scene? What would you suggest? I've got a lot of tools available through friends, so that's not a huge concern. Lastly, I don't have a ton of money (so supercharging or something would be of the question), but something like a y-pipe or cat-back might be possible on my budget.

Any thought? TIA

Ok...if you have a Nissan or Maxima car club in your area then the better for you. I speak from personal experience...DNE has been there to help all of it's members mostly to help in modding their own individual cars.

Hayne's Manual...a definite plus. Very informative.

Stay on the forums even more...pay attention to most modding threads. A y-pipe is one of the best (and cheapest) mods for starters. By paying attention to the modding threads here you will find most people have gone over the same thing and can give pointers for you.

I don't know if I agree with your crazy emoticons, but the sentiment is shared, definitely.

Great link, thanks. It really breaks down the different types of mods, which is great for someone like me.

As for finding a local group, I have no idea how I would do that. Maybe I'll hit up google later.

vvv heh I totally forgot about those forums, thanks for reminding me vvv

If your looking for local Nissan groupds stop into your local dealer and start asking. Most of the Techs and parts people at the dealer here are very into modding. There is a meet in a month or so. Just start poking your head into places and keep your eyes open.
