What are bumpstops and should I cut them?

I received my AGX struts and progress springs, and instructions for the spirngs mention cutting the bumpstops on your struts in half. I'm looking on the shock and I don't see anything like the illustration shows that could be bumpstops.
Are the instructions only referring to stock struts, and maybe AGX struts don't need to have the bumpstops cut? Any info is appreciated, suspension work is totally foreign to me.

The bump stops are part of the dust boot. They are inside the boot. If you are going to cut them you almost have to cut the boot off then cut the bump stop then glue the boot back on.

If your dust boots are in bad shape you ought to jusr replace them with KYB dust boots that come with already shorter bump stop.
