Hey all,
This has probably been discussed several times but there is not search so here it goes. I am looking to possibly get a brighter headlight bulb for my car, i dont have money for hids right now (do hope to get them later) but for now i would like to just get a brighter halogen that will look similar to hids. There are two bulbs that i am looking at that seem to be decent, what one should i get the Sylvania Silverstars or the PIAA Xtreme White Headlight Bulbs. I dont want to burn up my harness, and i have heard there isnt really a problem with the silverstars in most cases, but i havent heard anything about the piaa's. As far as price goes, the silverstars are cheaper but i do want the best so if i have to spend a little extra i will.
Thanks in advanced

I've had PIAA's Xtreme since last summer and they seem to be working pretty good. I haven't really seen the Sylvania's so i can't really compare and say which one is better.

I will have HID's for sale this summer for $200-used. Hanabi Purple 7000k i think.?.
I recently replaced my Silverstars with PIAA's. I also put PIAA's in my fogs. On dry roads Silverstars are brighter, but in rain the PIAA's seem much better. I never saw any light in wet with SS's. The fog bulbs actually say HID on the package and do give that slight blue tint. I've always had good success with PIAA's. You shouldn't need to upgrade your harnesses with either. Good luck, hope this helps.
i've had silverstars since january...i'm happy with them; need to find matching fog bulbs to match the headlights. they show up just fine in rain & snow, and they look solid bright white with hardly any hint of blue. plus, they don't cost that much ($35/pair) and they're easy to find.

Most of the bulbs which actually sat "HID" or that give the "HID Look" are all B/S. Aside from the color they flair off, they do not produce an acceptable beam pattern, or at least one that doesnt work with your headlamp housing (or anyone's for that matter)...I recently spanked some Piaa Extreme Whites in my fogs and they are alright...worth the money I would even say. Trying to achieve that actual "superwhite" effect is not easy. Many say Raybrig...many say Piaa....until u see then for yourself its open season. BTW I'm running the H-3's with HID's for headlights and I still think the fogs look good.Originally Posted by Doc

I've gone thru Chicago rain, sleet, and snow and have no complaints. As far as price, I wouldn't say it's to bad. I got mine off ebay.Originally Posted by gto400no1

Let me know if I am not correct on this, but I think you guys with fog lights have it made. When it rains, turn on your fog lights for better vision. I have a gxe and don't have this option. On a dark road, my nokya arctic purples look fine in the rain, and they are outstanding in dry. They were a cheap find on ebay.

The wording on my PIAA Extreme White fogs was mostly written in Japaneses as well as indicating HID. I realize they aren't true HID but rather give the look of it somewhat. I think these fog bulbs are very white and bright and project just fine.

I think you have it correct. The fogs do definitely help in lousy weather as they are much closer to the ground and project directly to the road in front of you. I wouldn't have a vehicle without them any more.Originally Posted by guido32

Very true. The bang for the buck has to go to Silverstar. I wasn't saying Silverstars are inferior, just don't work in wet as well as the PIAA's, IMO. SS's are very good bulbs at a much better price.

All of these 9004 bulb replacements suck in general if you're looking for increased visibility. HID's suck as well becaues in our housings they just shoot light all over the place and blind oncoming traffic. Not only that but they still suffer in the rain just like the 9004's. The sad part is that i don't think they'll ever be a true set of lights for the 4th gen Maxima and by a true set of lights obviously i mean projector.
