budget, cattman or warpspeed?

i have always believed in doing something right the first time and with that in mind i am in the market for a y pipe and exhaust. Thus far the the 3 noteable canidates i have decided upon are the budget ,cattman and warpspeed. i live in massachusetts and i recently purchased a 99 SE-L maxima 5speed . the car runs well and is quick. i do want to give it some personality and i am looking for a good y pipe and ehaust. in doing research Cattman looks the best for quality but i have read that theird exhaust drones which i am not very fond of, i have head that the Warpspeed exhaust are good and would like to purchase one if i could get a first hand acount of how well they do on the 4th gen. as for Y pipes i would like to get a stainless steel one, my brother had a stillen on his maxima once upon a time and when we removed it before he sold the car it had just began to rust. i am willing to pay the diffrence for the better product. i also read on warpspeeds website their y pipes have a lined flex section that prevents buzzing? is this buzzing very annoying. how good are there exhaust.
please let me know what you think

I would like to know also. I am concerned about the bees in the can sound which many have had and claimed as extremely annoying with some y pipes. I checked http://maxmods.dyndns.org/ but I just thought I'd check via first person, too. thanks!

I was about to post a similiar forum. There is currently a group deal going on for a warpspeed aluminized pipe for 160. It's a good price but of course my no. 1 concern is that it's not stainless steel. I've heard that the Budget Y-pipe is SS but it's also about 190$. I'd really like to get one soon but I'm just contemplating if the 30$ is worth the extra piece of mind with it being SS. Keep in mind that I do live in chicago and the weather sometimes gets crazy.

$30 is more than worth it for T-304 Stainless Steel. Wrapspeed charges $275 for the same quality pipe.

Bees in the can is caused because of the front and rear pipes being of unequal length, something that ALL y-pipes are guilty off. The unequal length causes the sound pulses to hit the Y out of sync and hence the funny noise. It is not caused by or necessarily cured by a lined flex because you can get bees-in-the-can with a lined flex as well. Its a phenomenon that some get, some don't, regardless of design.

I also like the idea that Budget uses for their B-Pipe they have designed it with 2 extra flanges, so you can swap in or out the resonator. I purchased both pieces so I can swap back and forth if desired. (see pics in link)

for me, it has been always a toss up between budget and warpspeed. But then i found out Budget was Canadian, so for me it's good, but that's all that really changed or made my decision. plus i just found out that i live 30 min's from the shop, so that makes things real easy.

budget are known having bad flex section in the long run. warpspeed are known having weird noises from the flex section. it could be fixed with exhaust wrap easily.

budget takes awhile to ship. i would go warpspeed.

cattman has no problem.

Cattman it is then i would like to save the extra cash but i would like the least amount of problems. $350 is alot when another y pipe can be had for less then $200 but would it be worth it. i also must have a stainless steel piece. i live in Ma and road sailt is a problem

I'll be getting warpspeed's vitamin Y soon, but I'm a little concerned about the flex noise.
What exactly is an exhaust wrap, where can I get it, and is it as simple to install as it sounds (just wrap the flex section...)?

How many yrs do u mean when talkin about the "long run"?? So you are saying that there are no bees in the can noise with budget, but it has a bad flex section? What exactly do you mean when u say a bad flex section? What is the flex section, BTW? (sorry for the stupid questions).

Budget does not have a bad flex section or any other section.

As a matter of fact Budget has replaced Cattman flexes at their shop.

I am on my 3rd Budget exhaust system (3 different Maxima's) and have never had a quality issue of any sort, nor have I heard of any, other than a couple of bees-in-the-can which wrapspeed and cattman have as well.

Budget's pipes are 100% T-304 Stainless including the Y and flex. I personally inspected all the different parts individually as well as the assembly area when I spent a full afternoon there last friday 12 Mar 04.

They have never made a pipe out of anything but T-304 SS and why would they when they sell for less than $200 US.

The quality of the stainless is mandated by ASTM so the only difference is the design and quality of work and there are many who have and will testify to how good that is.

Performance of my car is directly related to the quality and design of its exhaust sytem and I attribute much of my track success to Budget and their support.

Here is what the flex section looks like.

I love my budget and i had a great time dealing with them. The only problem i have was that i wasn't expecting all the extra noise that came along with the y-pipe plus my obx cat-back. But if thats the trade of i have to have with the power it gave me... then the louder the better

Extra noise? What kind of extra noise? Does it sound ricey or weedwhacker-like? Just wondering cuz I was thinking of getting a cat back exhaust after I order/install my y-pipe. Thanks.
