emergency help needed!!!????!!?

so I was driving home 2night and my car seemed no different than usual, then I went to the gas station to get some gas, afterwards, when I left the gas station, my car all of a sudden was transmitting a strange thunking feeling to me in the front-end....ie. i could feel it primarily in the steering wheel/column...it was like a intermitent thunk...kinda felt like there is something wrong in my suspension, even over the smoothest roads, the front end consistenly and in coordination with the vehicles speed, feels like it is going over a step every 1 second or so.....seems to go away in turns though....don't know what this could be...HELP!!!

happened to one of my friends (grand am)......it actually happened to his back not front, his shock broke. so maybe you blew your front shocks? or maybe you bent your front rim(s)?

wouldn't my eibach springs be bouncing if my shocks were blown? they aren't boucing, and the effect goes away in turns, just in straight line, whta I didn't mention is that I don't have ABS and that night, I did a really hard stop that locked me up for about 100ft or so...so maybe I flat-spotted my tires....what do you guys think?

my car just feels like it is going down a step every second or so and it stops around turns, could it be anything with the strut bearing or bump stop? I guess I will have to just take my wheel off and push it to see if the tire is flat spotted....i hope that is the problem cause it is easy to fix (ie. doing a burnout usually fixes it!) but if it were my front strut, I would think my eibach's in the front would constantly bounce especially in a turn which it doesn't....i just get a consistent thunk in a straight line that is felt from the front end....don't know what it could be though.....any other guesses? anyone else have this happen on their max?

You basically just got to get under there and check it out man. It could be flat spots but i dont think they would stop around corners, do a burn out any way though. Maybe its, hopefully not, your cv or differential. Ive blown about 4 rear ends and they always make a consecutive clunking noise. good luck, right a follow up.

so a z mechanic told me over the phone that it sounds like a flat spot...but he can't be sure...he said not a strut because otherwise my front end would be constantly bouncing with lowering springs such as the eibach's....wish me luck guys..i hope that is it!

Tire

Alright you say you locked them up for a good 100'. Well this has happend to one of my buddies. What happen is he wore a flat spot on the tires and you can imagine as what that would feel like driving down the road.. Try to look at the tires and see if there is a flat spot. OR maybe throw some other wheels and tires on there and see if it fixes.. Thats the best clue i have..

i'll try that....mean while though....that might not have been my problem after all, I jacked up my car and took off my wheels....then I grabbed hold of my spring (taking turns on each side) and the spring has play in it, I can move the spring from side to side at the top only about a centimeter or so, and it makes a clunking sound against the wall up in there? any idea why the spring could be loose at the top and I could move it around when my car is jacked up and the wheels are off? it only happens at the top of the spring...

okay...so after taking apart my entire front suspension, nothing seems bad or out of place...and the strut appears to be fine...so I put the car down and whatever....then when I brake now, the rear end bounces a little and makes a noise....so now i think it's the rear struts that are blown!! wtf???

Your spring might have been unseated for some reason. That would be why you can move it. I doubt you have blown struts. Just get under there and try to see if the top and bottom of the springs are in the proper grooves on the strut. If not, I dont know what to tell you.
