Which muffler to buy?

I had the ebay axle back and it sounded good nice and deep not to agressive, but then i added a y-pipe and test pipe now it is really agressive and pretty much annoying and Loud. Any one have anything that is not overkill in sound, like on the highway or when taking off, just mellower? (but not like stock)
Thanx

I tryd to put my factory muffler (46,800 miles) on but it sounded like crap. It sounded really restricted and like it was holding back power, Thanks to the y-pipe and test pipe.

Im not basing, have u ever heard a factory muffler with a y-pipe if trys to be loud and sounds restricted, besides a exhust system with y-pipe doesn't really add that much power anyway u don't feel 15 whp its all in your head. ive had full boltons to everycar ive had and never really noticed anything, except for my 97' reg cab shortbox powerdyne s/c sonoma with all the bolt ons that thing could burn'm for blocks

yea a factory muffler and its put put sound just dont cut it for me, i think the test pipe, which provides negligeble gains in terms of numbers, is whats primarily causing the loudness. i have the ebay axle back and a ypipe, and all i get is compliments on it, even people who know nothing about cars / exhausts love the way it sounds

I thought that after market mufflers only added 1-2 ponies over the stock one, is this correct? My assumption was that to get the most out of the exhaust system you needed to replace the y-pipe(about 15 ponies) and the b-pipe with the big crimp toward the back(about 5 ponies).

yes thats true, but for the best flow to get the most out of the y the b and muffler are pretty good choices to mod

I have actually being kicking the idea of getting a b-pipe and muffler in my head. I am leaning more towards just the b-pipe, but a nice shiny new muffler will look nice . My main concern is the increase in noise. I guess I will just have to search and read. I know what ever b-pipe I get will have a long resonator, just have to find an aftermarker muffler that is not too loud and does not drone.

the tough thing with b pipes is that they almost always make ur exhaust alot louder, best bet would be to get one and then use the stock exhaust or try to get a 5th gen variable muffler

I think you are right Nismos. Now if my sister will just let me take the muffler off of her 5th gen . Seriously though, I think that I could probably find one at my local junk yard. I will start browsing in a couple of weeks. I may just go with WSP for the B-pipe.
