Knock sensor replacement (search not working)

Search is not working and I checked out the FAQ's pages & http://www.motorvate.ca/mvp.php/515....

does anyone know what the necessary tools are to replace the KS? I remember reading something about a 12mm swivel ratchet and a handfull of other items.

Thanks in advance!

Don't forget a magnet in case you can't fit your hand in to drop the bolt. If you have a small hand all you need is a closed wrench, small breaker bar. I've done 2 that very easy, hardest part waiting for the intake manifold to cool down.

little pointers that people don't mention:
- liquid wrench or pb blaster
- 12 mm, 6-point flex socket from craftsman
- 12" or longer extension
- your girlfriend with a small hand or the neighbor's kid to take the bolt out and start it after KS replacement

Actually my little boy helped me put the KS in. He was 9 at the time, so he was able to screw the KS sensor down with no problem. Just make sure you cover the whole area with rags so that the little one does not get hurt on the sharp edges.

1996blackmax, I remember your story. Something like : KS labor savings by getting help from your little boy: $300. Spending the rest of the day in close contact with your boy : priceless!

A couple of months ago, I asked my 13 yo daughter to start the thread on the ks on the Max. She voluntered without hesitation. Just recent, I bought a Miata. My girl went: Daddy, can I help you change the ks on this car also?

twiggy144 your story just put a big smile on my face . Nice hearing from you again, and hopefully the Miata's KS is easier to change than on the Max. If not, you have your little one to come to your rescue again. My little boy has become more interested in the car now. I let him do some things here and there on the car, and we both have a good time. He likes using the socket wrench.
