Starter turns slow. Is that normal?

I have a 1999 SE-Limited and although it always starts even in the lowest of temperatures, I don't think the starter turns as fast as it should. My mom has a 1992 Lexus LS400 and that car starts so fast it is unbelievable. Is that caused by a better battery or something about starter teeth in relation to the flywheel teeth. I would definitely like it to start much faster than it does. Any advice would be most appreciated. Thanks guys. Peace.

Is the battery fully charged? Are the battery cable clamps clean and tight? If so, your starter is probably cranking at normal speed. Don't compare it to your mother's Lexus, compare it to other '99 Maximas.

My 95 is the same way...even with a brand new battery. Maxima's are know to have weak starters.

There have been complaints about weak starters in the '95 model. Later Maximas were equipped with an improved starter. The later model starters may be used as a replacement unit in a '95.
