my rotor replacement story
my rotor replacement story
had warped rotors. bought new bendix rotors from advance auto . put them on.
still had a shake problem. took car to tire store. they turned the rotors $20 each.
I emailed bendix - they said 100% of their rotors are completely true and that something else must have been the problem (rust or hub run out).
Tire store sez they have to turn them all the time.
whos telling the truth?.

I think it would be very unusual to have to turn brand new rotors--I have never heard of anyone doing that. Doing so will be sure to have them warp in no time. And to pay for new rotors AND have them turned--outrageous. If the new rotors were warped (however unlikely) you should have returned them to Advanced Auto...they should be warrantied for 6 mo or a year (at least Autozone rotors are). Also, I don't know if you are using old brake pads but if they don't sit flush with the rotor, there may be some vibration. Also, did you change all 4 rotors or just two...it is possible that the other two may be warped and causing the vibration. Usually the front rotors involve steering wheel vibrations in addition to brake pedal.
yes shake all gone.
house brand rotors were $28 each. bendix were $43 each. i compared them after the bendix ones I ordered came in.
the cheaper house brand rotors were double wrapped in poly bags, bendix were not. cheaper house brand had holes in the rotor for threaded bolts to push the rotors off, if they ever got stuck on. Original Nissan rotors also had these holes. bendix rotors did not have the threaded holes.
Makes you wonder if the cheap ones are better. the bendix ones were stamped bendix so it was not a parts swap in the box.

Hmmm. Those Bendix don't sound too good. I recently replaced my rear rotors with Autozone OEM-spec rotors for $30 each and they have worked well so far. The fronts were replaced with Brembo's about a year and a half ago and started to have slight brake pulsations after just 8k miles unlike the OEM rotors which only started doing that after 70k miles. Sometimes more money doesn't work out. At least you got rid of the shake but I just hope it lasts.

my 2 cent on rotors:
"upgrading" just your rotors will cause you more trouble then its worth
the only time you will really see any gain from this is under heavy braking conditions and these "performance" rotors are more prone to cracking and warping IMHO. The reality is, the cost of regular rotors is usually 1/2 to 1/4 cheaper and the "performance upgrade" usually isn't worth the money if all your doing is rotors.

my rotors started warping at about 25k miles and we put up with it til 47k miles, then replaced them this week. bought the car new. I live in flat countty and drive slowly (my 94 4 cyl Camry still has the ORIGINAL front brake pads, as an example at 114,000 miles believe it or not.)
so what is the deal on the Max rotors warping?
are the brakes too small for the car?
seems people in the mountains would be ruining them every year. Or was it a 1999 year problem?
does anyone really know?
are the new maxima rotors bigger in diameter?

I still don't think that Nissan has fixed the rotor warping problem. It may not have been the rotors warping, but rather your pads leaving particles that build up on the rotor that give it also an uneven feeling when braking. I do think that Nissan rotors are too thin(am not sure about too small...they seem large compared to some other cars like ours). If you turn them once, they are going to go out for sure. I would never turn my rotors, from my experience, I would just replace them. They are not that expensive, so I think it is all right.
The thing you had with that Camry....that is just a lucky, freak accident that they were able to last that long. No car does that! Especially, not the pads!

pads material transfer?
could be but why dont other cars do that like the maxs do?
the max seems rotor shake prone and we as a group do not know what causes it.
Seems someone would figure it out.
my guess is the rotors are too small. 99s are 11 in diameter - i do not know whats common on other cars but 11 inch sounds like big enough.
anyone else have an idea?
could be something with the cooling fins between the two rotor "plates" maybe the center slot size is too small result: no cooling or inadequate cooling.
or maybe the proportioning valve puts too much force on the front brakes
