***Hacked Airbox Complete*** Video/Sound Clip Included

Last week I hacked my airbox and recorded the sound with my camera. Its about half a megabyte and I need someone to host it for me. I shot it with the video option on my digital camera so the quality isin't amazing, but good enough unless your a perfectionist.

I will get this thing up, as soon as I get a host.

THANKS

THE CLIP IS UP FOR DOWNLOAD:

cool, i was thinkin of recording the sound for my Hacked Box tomorrow....i'm interested to hear how it sounds compared to yours. i'm also gonna record a clip with the K&N Filter in place of the stock, it sounds pretty different because of the increase in airflow. while the stock sound is like a low gurgle(like the air is going in in slow big gulps) the K&N sounds like it's taking air in in quick little gulps. can't describe it real well but hopefully i'll be able to find someone to host it tomorrow after i record it.

Whoever is wondering how it sounds like and you have a hybrid or HAI, it's almost identical. A bit deeper and it comes on early in the RPM range, 2krpm or so. I HAD to drive with the bottom part of the box off for a few days and it sounded like what I described.

when I did mine I just cut the triangle out of the end near the fender. love the sound, nice and quiet for regular driving and then a good growl when you punch it. and you can't argue with the price, FREE!!!!

The hacked airbox is mainly done for the sound of it. while some belive it adds a few hp, the majority of the crowd hacks their airbox to get that deep growl over 2k rpm.

yup...i also hacked only most of the triangular area, because i couldn't get the screws for the bottom half of hte air-box off and stabbing the plastic with a knife took me like 2 hours. love the sound though...

Jepht20, i see you have the K&N filter in there too, i was wondering if you noticed a difference in the way the sound reverberates in the cabin with the stock filter and the K&N?

I just hacked my airbox with a jigsaw, perfect cut. I'm sure it adds a miniscule HP, but you can't beat the growl for the price.

i think someone did a test on the dyno and it was the same hp gain as a 'real' intake. gogo free mod.

i have mine hacked too, but i cut out the whole triangular piece. i did it with a dremel tool, perfect cut. mine sounds a bit louder, maybe bc of the video, maybe cause i cut more out. whatevs.

Hey, that sounds pretty nice on an acceleration run. Can you still keep it nice and quiet with conservative driving. If I had to drive my grandma somewhere, would we be able to talk? Would the entire conversation be about how loud my car is??? Am I going to attract too much unwanted attention (black and whites)?

i've done this mod and its only loud when close to WOT. If you're accelerating slow enough for you grandma not to be complaining about you driving to fast, you won't hear any difference at all. mine sounds completely stock sounding under normal driving conditions.

Thanks for the reply. I think I will try this soon! BTW "Cheese and Rice" you cut the Cr#p outta that box. I hope to be slightly more sublte. Will the sound be similar if a 2.5" round hole is cut, and a tube attatched and run to receive cooler air? I suspect the length of the hose will change the sound. Has anyone else done this. I was hoping that, if I needed to, later I could remove the hose and patch the hole to return it to stock.

gibby, you can somewhat notice a difference in the sound coming from the engine bay starting from around low-mid 2k rpm's liek you can hear a slight low growl, but it's not LOUD in the cabin, until you go close to WOT....if you press the gas hard it you'll hear it immediately because the air sucking is reverberating inside the air box...during everyday driving you probably won't hear the full extent of the sound and don't worry bout not hearin your grandma, that won't be a problem.

about the hole, i think you might be better off like that because the smaller hole will not mess with the sucking pressure thats utilized to make the front scoop functional. imagine sucking through a straw (borrowing fobrice's analogy), then cut a big hole in the side of the straw...most of the air will come from the hole closer to the source of suction because the hole is big...if you make a little hole it'll keep a balance between the air being sucked from the end and the air being sucked from the hole you made. sorry if that sounds like rambling crazy talk

and lastly, i have a mini video clip of me flooring my car, like .2 or .3 megs, anyone wanna host for a day or two?

I don't see any rambling crazy talk. Thanks alot. I think I'll start with just the simple round 2-2.5" hole and poss. add some tubing later. Thanks again.

np, tell us how it goes....good thing about hte tubing is that if that doesn't work out/sound right then you can just take it out and throw the tube away and still have the hole to work on
