ahhh...new sparks definatly worth it.

changed out the old sparks last saturday. seems that the last owner was on the NGK copper low budget - crap for cash budget.

had been getting worse and worse gas milage. switched out the old NGK's for some Bosch Plats 2 (was too broke for the $2 extra for the Bosch Plats 4).

it was very easy to install, and a little tip for you do it your self-ers. use the guide on vqpower.com

then, when you have loosened the sparkplug and it is spinning freely in the shaft, use your electric coils to pluck them out. this will save you the 10 minutes per plug if you try and use your sock to "get lucky" and pull it out.

all in all, i can see a increase in performance over the NGK's and an increase in gas milage verses when the NGK's were new.

gained about 20 extra miles to the tank. So im looking at about 410 Miles to the Tank, without hitting E, but very very close to the light coming on.

cant wait to see what the Bosch Plats 4 will do on the next install.

you will be changing those bosch faster than you think!!!!! i had my bosch instaled and i thought i was king of the world, and 8 months later i noticed my mileage was going down and i had poor performance. i checked everything and then i pulled out the plugs and saw no tip left on 4 of the plugs. I posted on the org and it was everyones oppinion that bosh, champion and all autozone plugs arent to good in our cars. I went to nissan and got some ngk plats, performance plus mileage improved drasticly. next time get ngk plats or less expensive ngk coppers. coppers arent bad plugs just dont last as long as plats, but you should get a good 25,000+ miles from what i heard.

NGK all the way... I would never put anything else...

Also, use a socket w/ a rubber grip in it to take out the plug...

I've tried the +4's. They were replaced with NGK plats within a month. The +4's are crap.

Also, they may have 4 places for spark but they still only use one. When I took mine out you could plainly see on each plug that the spark was only jumping in one spot.

Put platinums in if you can. Your car will thank you for it.

Sounds like the previous owner knew what he was doing when he put in the coppers. He was not cheap, just smart.

You should have just replaced them with NGK coppers.

I believe Advance Auto carries NGK's if there are any in your area. According tot he web site they are around $10/platinum plug which is not bad from what I have seen at other places on the web.

I'm with Mike on this one...

Coppers provide a much better spark compared to Platinums.
Coppers last 30k miles and are 1/3rd the cost of Platinums...platinums only last 60k.

So what is the smarter choice here?

And as said above...Bosch platinum anything are crap. They burn up easily...if you have to buy platinum then only get NGK.

i thought that ngk platinums were good for 90,000 miles, i remember reading a post on here where some one said that. oh well, the nissan guy at the dealership didnt know the part number for coppers on the max so i had to get plats(i think he purposely did this to make more money) 58.00 on plugs but the performance was worth it.

Actually the dealer doesn't list the coppers for the Maxima at all. I believe you have to tell them it is for an Altima...but don't quote me on that.

I don't know the exact part # but it is BRK something.

**EDIT...no they are BKR5E-11.
Best found at a NAPA or O'Reilleys rather than the dealer.

and put them in yourself...don't take to the dealer.

NGK coppers here too.
They are better conductors than the plats, and like others have said, a third the cost. You do the math.

Part number for NGK Coppers is BKR5E-11. I changed mine last weekend. Got them from Kragen Auto.

NGK plats were $11 ea. at my stealership. I wanted them quick, and all part stores in town had to order. Made a huge difference over the Bosch plats that were put in by previous owner. I'll always stick with the NGK plats. Nissan puts them in there for a reason!

I got NGK coppers in right now, but I got a great deal on platinum plugs on eBay a while back (~$35 shipped for 6 plugs and a fuel filter) so I'll be replacing the coppers soon

NGK Coppers all the way, best bang for the buck, and they work great; would'nt trade em for nothing. at about $1.53 ish a plug, can't beat that compared to $10 / plug times 6!
