These pics really don't do the wheels justice. They look great in person, I've gotten a few compliments already and one of my friends thought I bought new wheels. Took A LOT of time...I actually broke one of the wheel studs off (bc of my impatience). Costed $38 to fix...but even with that it was well worth it IMO. With window tint my theme will be pretty much done.

LOL yep I am as lazy as it gets

Head on down to AutoZone or Pep Boys or whatever auto supply store and they will probably have Dupli-Color Wheel paint. I got the charcoal color and clear coat. You have to also buy Aircraft Stripper (also at AutoZone for like $4) to strip the clearcoat/paint off the wheels.

To get the polished rim I stripped the rim of the wheel down to bare metal using aircraft stripper and a chisel to scrape the paint off. I have a complete write-up on my site.

yeah i don't mean to hi-jack this thread but i painted my wheels black. My friend tell me that it just looks like i took off my hubs and that i'm riding on steelies but watever. I like this look. It adds such an aggressive look after the 15" sawblades. Check it out.

damn luda, ur car gets nicer everytime i see it. After u dropped ur car, i was like "damn that's clean~!" Good work

Did you actually polish the lip, or is it just unpainted?

Either way, it looks pretty hot

Not too shabby! I was thinking about doing the same, but painting my wheels black. I'm going to sand blast them first, then use a polishing wheel to polish the lip before I paint them.

Gotta wait for nicer weather first ...

thanks for the comments guys

Heh I noticed your wheels after I posted...240sx wheels right? They look good imo...kinda stealthy. In pics they dont show up well but Ive seen black wheels in person and they look good. I know what you mean...I was wanting to buy black rota slipstreams but my gf was telling me itd look like I was rolling on hubcaps. But NOW she tells me it might have looked better if I painted with a darker color lol

mzmtg- stripped the paint and polished them with some metal polish my friend had...its not as shiny as it could be we will be using a dremel on the lip soon.

Looks good! What series are those tires? They look like balloons. May consider a lower profile tire.

Looks good. you did a nice job with the lip.

Are you worried about the paint chipping or peeling over time?

Does anyone have any experience with how the paint will hold up?

WOW, I am absolutely amazed at what painting stock wheels can do . This is my next project. I believe that dark painted stock wheels, like in ludacris's case, look/match best with a black Maxima. I have a super black 99 SEL and I'm sure it will look marvelous when finished.

What amazes me even more is that NOT ONE post actually bashed the wheels in any way or form. It's weird because that's usually what happens here on maxima.org. Seems that everyone adores the new look.

I guess my only concern is with the paint coming/scraping off easily. Yeah?

your car has a nice look to it...kinda the same thing im going for. if you could make the lip a little larger, or make it stand out more, i think it would really set off the charcoal color.

I'll be honest. When I read this post this morning all I wanted to say was grose. Well now that everyone really likes it, I on the other hand still hate it. I don't know if it's your tires or the silly little lip. I'm sorry but I don't like it. But I do like the originality, and painting the wheels is not a bad thing. Props on the good work too because it looks flawless, but just not the color.

y2ksesteve- Looks like u got some paint on ur tire When I first got the car I wanted to paint the wheels dark grey or black...and I relied on photoshops to see how itd look until I saw pics of ur car awhile back. Your car looks good

formz- haha they look exactly the same

87maxwagon- I was worried about the paint not holding up to a high pressure spray at a car wash and tested it out today. The wheels came out completely unaffected by the high pressure hose...but there was a guy on honda-tech that started pulling paint off the first time he washed his wheels. Just be thorough with the prepping and you will be fine.

BOSS- Paint coming off shouldnt be a problem...definetly stay away from curbs, etc.

|x|_maxima_|x|- Duplicolor wheel paint...my www has all the info. It took me and some buddies one day for the front wheels and one day for the rear wheels. Make sure to do this on a day where it is dry, the rear wheels were done on a day when a lot of moisture was in the air and we had to wait around for a long time in between coats to dry.

While I am still more a fan of the bright aluminum look on dark cars, I do like what you have done. I think the shiny lip is a nice touch, looks good. Nice work.
