ludacris...in the directions on your page, when you say 5 coats of paint and 3 clearcoats, you mean paint-dry x5 then clear-dry3x right?

Quote: Looks good. you did a nice job with the lip.

Are you worried about the paint chipping or peeling over time?

Does anyone have any experience with how the paint will hold up?

Mr.P
I'm going to reply to myself. Heh.

Way back around 1990 I painted my wheels on my 70 RS Camero. I did a lot of prep work and the paint stayed on fine for several years. And that wasn't even with specialized wheel paint.

Note that this was in California, so the wheels only dealt with sun and rain.

So scratching may be the only issue.

They look damn good . . . I really like the way these turned out. May I suggest you buy some 02/03 Centercaps with the chrome Nissan emblem in the middle, and paint the centercap (minus the emblem) grey; IMO thats all you need. I think with tints, and a Stillen Kit painted dark grey your car would look pretty good and unique.

any color suggestions for a deep evergreen max. my stock rims have crap all over them that won't wash off.

Nice car. Nice rims. Now get some tint. Then smoke your rear Nissan badges.

Quote: y2ksesteve- Looks like u got some paint on ur tire When I first got the car I wanted to paint the wheels dark grey or black...and I relied on photoshops to see how itd look until I saw pics of ur car awhile back. Your car looks good
Thanks for the compliment. Yea I should have taken my time, but I didn't. There's paint on every tire, but this setup is only temporary.

Definetly...I really like how ur Sprints sit even, how much did it cost to get hte springs cut?

zealotnyc- yep

87MaxWagon- 2nd gen f-body My friend just got 3rd gen Trans-Am wheels from a junkyard and will be painting his wheels same way I did em.

thekenone- I think darker color rims on darker color cars always looks good...and its pretty much your only option unless you want to paint em white or red

2k3TitaniumSe- Do you know how to smoke the badges? I've actually been thinking about it...the two badges, trunk key hole, license plate frame and muffler all really stand out now that my tails are smoked. When I tint my windows itll be even worse.

Thanks for all the comments guys

For those worried about how they hold up:

On my DSM I did the exact same thing (picture is on page 1).
I live in CT so we get hit with some nasty winters. They've held up for 2 winters, 2 falls, 1 summer, and 1 spring so far. So they've been fine for over a year and they haven't chipped/scratched at all.

As far as prep work goes I did almost nothing. I stripped the wheels and then painted then with 6-7 coats of paint, and 3-4 of clear. Both were Duplicolor Wheel Paint.

A friend of mine owns my DSM now so I still see it and they're holding up fine.

Hey I'm wondering...did you ever curb it or scrape it against anything? If you did, did the paint just flake off?

I'm wicked **** about parking near curbs and things so I never once hit a curb. I'd suspect it wouldn't flake off, but rather it would scratch.
