Oil Leak

My gf's 96 max has an oil leak coming from around the oil pan. I'm not exactly sure if it IS the oil pan that's leaking or something else, (oil pan gasket maybe)?? what else could it be in the same viscinity that could be leaking... or what is the thing that is most common to leak?

thanks

i tinkt he oil pressure sending unit is leaking, its supopsedly the most common leak if thats not it, throw some UV dye inside the oil and see where the leaking is coming from with a blacklight

Well, You should do what masurxk suggested. Or you can think back to the last oil change. If someone changed the oil and stripped your plug that could be your leak there. In proper installation of the oil filter could do so as well (unlikely but possible)..

Take it to the shop and let them trace it down.

First look for a line of oil, you will see it if your drain plug is the problem, you will see a line of oil coming from your drain plug across the oil pan to where it is finallly dripping.

I am guessing it is your oil pressure switch. If there is oil all over it that is the problem. If you want to check and make sure just wipe it down really well and get all the oil off of the pan and the switch. Jack the car up in a couple of days, if the switch has oil all over it that is your problem.

When installing a new switch be sure not to over tighten it.
