Brake problem... HELP!!!

After installing new rotors/pads at the front, I get one of the following

A. The most horrible loud *** sqeuaking when coming to a gradual halt (when the vehicle is closest to a stop.

B. With a more sudden stop, I get the same squeal, occasionally punctuated by a grinding feeling as the car comes to a stop.

Trying to fix this as soon as I can... And I've installed pads in the past, just not rotors. What's wrong?

You sure you got the right rotors and pads?

Autozone got some cheap rotors and works great!

i got mine from autozone and i think they are crap. they gave me the worng ones the first time and i had to go back. maybe if they had the performance ones in stock i wouldnt be complaining about them.

anyways, when i did my brakes i had the same issue. makes a sound similar to when you rub a balloon right>? just as it stops. it just went away after a few days. i think it has to do with the surfaces on the pad and rotor. once it wears in it goes away.

if this isnt what your talking about and this doesnt sound right or if your hearing a grinding noise & brakes arent working correctly then id take the wheels off and inspect everything.

Did you use the grease that keeps the shims from squealing in between the shims? You did put the shims back on the pads? Seriously, advance auto sells some noisefree grease that you need to put between the pad and shim. Also between the shim and brake piston to keep them quiet. Worked for me!!

Hard to believe that little piece of metal makes any difference AT ALL. I put the shims on one side (this morning, after posting) and the noise lessened but did not disappear. It still seemed to be coming from both sides, though. Also, aren't the pads supposed to have little grooves (in the shape of the two small holes in the shims) to keep the shims steady on the brake pads? My shims can (and still do) move on the brake pad. If the holes aren't supposed to be on the brake pad, then what is supposed to keep the shim attached to the pad?

In my case, autozone's Beck Arnley "Brakeware" kit included no shims... bastards...

I suggest getting the OEM(nissan) pads when you change the pads. I ordered mine from an online Nissan dealer for about 35 bucks. Got the cheapest replacement rotors I could find and used plenty of quiet stop grease. Also, I replaced the pads before they were plum wore out. That way the hardware was still good.

yea those little shims my the biggest difference if you forget to put them on, but if you still get a little squeak dont be upset just give it a week, its like any other new car part, you have to wear it in, and if possible go kinda easy on the brakes for the first week also, will help make your rotors last longer

Did you apply synthetic grease to the backing plate of the pad also the seating area were the pad is placed on the torque plate, did you apply grease on the sliding pins as well. Ususlly this noise occurs because no lubrication was applied on the contact areas, where a lot of sliding and friction take place, a moly based synthetic grease works wonders as well, if you follow these steps you'll eliminate this sound unless the pads are really cheap, then there's not much you can do to allay this noise.
