High Idle Problem
High Idle Problem
Need help with this one... For the past few weeks, my idle will rise to 2k and in some cases 2.5k... During cold starts the idle would be at 1.3k to 1.5k... When warmed up, it will idle at 750..
The problem will occur during driving conditions... I could be cruising at 60mph, then if I come to a complete stop, while in netrual, the idle will jump to 2k... This will last for about 10-15 min. Then it will idle normally, but intermitting...
There was even a case when this problem occured, I''d shut the car off, waited for 10 sec, and started it back up... The Idle, would then drop back to 750, but noticed the temp guage rasing to the H zone...
So far I replaced my TP sensor, knock sensor and harness. I'm not getting any codes... But 0505... So I'm a bit stumped...
Could it be my IACV, ERGV, Temp-sensor, thermostat or some other unit associated with idling??
I't seems electrical??? So any suggestions would be appreciated... Thanks.

Would you call it eratic?
If so, check vacuum leakage, check EGR valves for leaks, check air filter condition, check fuel pump flow and pressure, check for leaking head gasket, then check timing chain and the other sprockets for excess wear (id replace them all at this point), finally check the camshaft lobes for wear.
This is pretty heavy, but start at the beginning and do one at a time.
IF its not loping eratically when idling, then BUY a Haynes manual and read "Fast idle control solenoid" on page 6-17, not page six through seventeen, but page 6 dash 17.
Also check the "Fast Idle Cam" on 6-18.
Didnt mean to patronize you if you know this stuff.
Hope this helps some.

Clean your IACV (Idle air control valve)
Clean your Throttle body
Make sure the throttle return spring and throttle linkage isn't getting caught on something. Check to make sure the throttle plate isn't binding.
Check your Engine Temp Sensor, the values can be found in the Haynes repair manual.

Not a problem...
The idle is not eratic... No up and down movements... It stays steady... I have a brand new Walboro Fuel Pump, and CAI filter-system..
I did check for Vacuum leaks using "Quick Start"... No surges... I will check on head-gaskets, egr valves, timing chain...
As for the head gaskets, Anti freeze look fine, no oil.. Timing chain, well thats a big project...
I will check on the Haynes manual to view those issues you indicated...
Thanks

The Throttle Body is spottless... As for the IACV, how would you clean this, and where is it located???
Thottle return spring is fine and the linkage is set.... Nothing in the way...
The thottle plate, I assume you mean the butter-fly, I do hear it clicking during normal idle. It moves freely when thottle linkage is moved.
I will replace temp-sensor... Not sure on the test proceedure?
Thanks.
