98 SE without ABS
98 SE without ABS
Were there some of these cars made this way? I have the original window sticker from my car and it makes no mention of ABS. Is there any other way to find out if I have it or not without running the vin?

I have a 98 SE with leather and automatic climate control but with no ABS. It's alright though atleast I have a 5 speed!
.
See if an ABS light lights up on your dash when the key is in the on position. Also you can check under the master cylinder between the brake booster and your intake on the drivers side of the engine bay. If you have ABS there will be a cube with brake lines coming out of it that either go to the master cylinder or to your brakes. This is the ABS unit.

I have a black 98 SE also. ABS was an option that came with the premium seat upgrade. Many do not have it. Couldn't believe the guy who first bought my Max new didn't add it. Couldn't believe even more that Nissan doesn't make it standard. My Max is absolutly loaded except for the ABS, side air bags and heated seats.

I definitely don't have ABS, and the light comes on in accessory and goes out when you start the car.

If you don't have ABS and the light still comes on then I am wrong but I have always been told by other people and the dealership that is the best way to check.
I don't think that I have ABS either, no light comes on when I start my car...besides I think I am better off without it...one less thing to break on the car...and that crap is expensive to fix
I have a 97 fully loaded SE. It has an ABS marking on the fuse box in the engine compartment, but evidently they use the same one on all of them, because my car doesn't have ABS. I only bought it 800 miles ago, but I was quite easily able to lock it up when I tried last time it was raining
ABS was a Stand Alone option on 4th gens, thus its possible for any car with any options to have or not to have ABS.
The thing with the lights is odd, if you have the light you should have ABS.
Look in your front wheel well behind the wheel, if you see two tubes coming through the wheel well to the brakes than you have ABS if there is only one then you don’t.
Also look for a metal box under your brake fluid container with metal brake lines coming from it. If you have the box then you have ABS.

Look at your engine bay from the drivers side, standing by the fender. Look where the strut towers are. Between the towers and the intake is a gap, in that gap there should be a big box thing, silver or black. That is the ABS if you have it. If you tried to get to the fuel filter but something was in the way, you have ABS.
If you cannot find the box for the ABS, just do like the other guys have been saying.....just go and see if you can lock up your wheels. If they lock up when you brake really hard, you don't have ABS. If they don't lock up, but are kind of rough (from them grabbing and letting go and grabbing and letting go), you do have ABS.

I have seen WRX's that have cloth, but a 6-disc changer in dash....that type of weird stuff.
