5spd Launches....

Guys with 5spds who like to beat on their babies: Can you guys tell me at what rpm do you guys launch your Maximas? Also, do you slip, or dump? I've driven tons of performance cars with manual trans ie. vettes, t/as, twin turbo z's, mustang cobras....but this is the hardest car I've ever driven to launch. I'll either get that annyoying noise where the tires want to spin but tractions too good(breaks my heart) or just flat out spin. It's embarrassing at the red lights, and thought I'd ask the boys who know before spending all day beating up on my clutch to find the right rpms- I just bought a new one a month ago.....Thanks alot.

i used to rev it at 2500 and ride the clutch, an alright take off. then somebody posted to rev at 1250-1500, around there and dump the clutch. the first few times i tried it, i gave up because it felt like the car was going to stall. then i tried it again and kept the gas pedal down. that take off was one of my best. the rpms start low but its better then a burnout. a still tend to ride the clutch at 2500 rpms right now cuz im afraid i'll stall at the light.

I use to have a really hard time hooking up until I replaced my badly worn struts. I've got Koni adjustable up front, KYBs in the rear, ST springs, and 215/55R16 Yokohama Avid V4s. I now can rev up to 3500 rpms and very quickly slip the clutch (~1 second) and get a pretty good launch. I still get a good bit of wheelspin, but it's not near as bad as with blown struts. At the track I'm getting 2.25-2.29 60 foots which still shows I'm spinning, but not as bad as last seasons usual 2.45 60 foots.

Remingtons....
Dave B: How are those Yokohama AVID's? I've always been a fan of Yokos, as I ran them on my RX-7, but my Maxima came with fresh Remington XT-120 V-rated slabs of meat, and traction is great on dry ground, but when I threw it in snow last week, forget about it. These are the worst tires I've ever used on snow.

I have always been told to put the rpms at about 4000 at at the same time as you dump the clutch you let of the gas and let it jump and as soon as it grabes you punch it again.(of course you do all of thhis very quickly) It was always very successful with my mustang and does alright with my maxima. Also it does eat at your clutch so bad.

My tactics were a bit different. Being that I didn't know what to do, I just brought my tires down to 18PSI and did a straight dump from about 1300RPM. I was getting .22* rt's with that and the smallest amount of wheelspin. I try to take care of my baby. No speed shifting or power shifting. Just nice and easy.
