OK... I looked over the instructions. It doesn't really lok to me like there's enough space to get in there - but who am I to doubt success.
Are they going in though the gap between the end of the intake and all the EGR ? Or a bit lower on the through the side near the egr valve ? If it's the side, any idea how much of the stuff beside the engine these folks are removing ? Airbox ? Intake ? EGR ?
Thanks for any pointers.

1. if you have the stock snorkel from the airbox you will need to take it off. (2 plastic crimp bolts on the radiator support)
2. if your engine has that thing labeled #3 on the picture you have a cali model hence prepare to take your manifolds off.

3. if you don't have that "#3 vacuum thing" there look straight under the LOWER intake manifold and you will see the knock sensor, it's deep in there, or just follow the harness for it.
do you have a 99 cali spec?

I wrote the knock sensor post in the 4th gen how-to sticky, and I didn't have to take any parts off my car to replace the knock sensor. I put the socket extension in just ahead of the throttle body.
I don't have any information about the California versions.

That, my friend, sounds like a wager!
Looks like my MA car is CA spec. I think they adopted the CA specs a few years ago. I heard a rumor to that effect.
I think I'd have to pull most of the stuff out of the right hand side anyway to get the manifolds off, and my TB needs cleaning, so I will give it a go at getting to the KS without actually pulling the manifolds. I think that once I get all the misc hoses and such out of the way and remove the swirl linkage that I will have as much clearance as a non-CA car. I'll followup if it can be done with a post.
Comments from anyone who's tried it are appreciated.
