Brake/Axle type problem-- HELP!!!
After installing a new set of brake pads, I get a "thunking" sound while coasting. I don't get the sound while accelerating or while braking. I get it most often when I hit irregularities in the road while driving which hit one side but not the other. Any ideas what the cause could be?

Part 2- I took the wheel completely off after raising the car, tested by accelerated and braking and just leaving the wheels rolling with car in Drive. I get odd sounds (like the rotor is catching or something) and so I remove/replace the entire brake assembly. Run the car with no brake assembly/rotor, no noise. Put everything back on, with a lug nut at the bottom of the rotor to keep it level. Again, no noise. re-install brakes, run it again, no clunking sound. re-install wheels, and no odd sounds while accelerating, cruising or braking. Put car back on ground and drive.... I get the noise again. It's a clunking sound that seems like it comes every other rotation of the axle or so. It doesn't happen while car is accelerating, and only VERY rarely while car is braking. The noise comes almost for sure every time I am just cruising, maintaining speed without brake. Any ideas at all?
