i just recently grabbed 18 inch rims from a friend and i really want to put them on my car but i didnt drop my car yet. will this look kind of funny or will the gap be reduced since the wheels are bigger?

also, the rims i got didnt come with lug nuts. am i able to use the lugs from my stock rims or do i have to find a different set of lugs?

Gap will be bigger because the rims are bigger. You WILL have a 4x4.

You could put them on now, but it would look somewhat awkward with the stock ride-height.

I wouldn't go 18 if I was you. You are sacrificing a lot of ride quality and you will **** up your shocks up in no time. But if you already bought them, you should do a drop if you can afford it. The best time is when your current shocks wear out.
I guarantee after a few months you will go to a smaller size.

You do sacrifice some ride quality, but your cornering and traction increase on the low profile tire. "You will **** up your shocks", thats ridiculous. It's not that bad man. your shocks must have been about dead beforehand. You can't beat the look of 18's with something smaller. As for wheel gap, long as you keep close to the same radius of the stock wheel/tire combo. THERE'S NO DIFFERENCE ! I'm tired of people stating that 18's make the gap bigger. What you loose in sidewall, you gaine in rim size. Simple math, so how in the hell is the wheel gap increase so drastic from stock. Unless you can see .15 of an inch with the naked eye from 10 yards away. Who gives a ****.

I agree 100%!! Tthe overall diameter of the tire is the same, therefore no more of a gap. If anything, you'll be filling more of the wheel well with wheel/tire. the 18's will be wider, and wider at the top. With the stock 15's your tire curves in more at the top and is not a wide as the 18. I think if anything your making it look better. Just because it won't have the "dropped look" others have right now it's still better that what you have if YOU like it.

I actually did some measuring on my Contour when I went from 15's to 16's The radius of the wheels were the same but when I put the 16's on it did jack the car up. I measured from the wheel well to the ground and it increased. I also drove the car around the block, came back and measured again and it was like 1 to 1.5 inches bigger....mind you this was 4 years ago so I dont remember the exact number. I know its no Maxima, but a car is a car.

Rims dont **** up shocks, dont listin to that bull.

And i would put them on, they wont look as god as they would with a drop but it will still look better than stock.

Just try to get the shocks and stuff as soon as possible.

well when you go buy them they are going ask you what vehicle are they for. They should have the sizes on their computer. I'm pretty sure you will need those lock nuts for yours wheels

you guys can say whatever you want, but when I bought my previous max shocks felt great. It was a GLE, so the ride was quite comfortable. Than I put the 18s on and drove on them for 2 months. Took them off for the winter and put stocks back on. Ride was almost as choppy as with the big dogs.

And once again, with my new 99 GLE I bought it with stockies and a week ago put the 18s back on. Again I naturally don't like the ride (over bumps) as much as with stockies. Of course the cornering is way better, but I have them up for sale and will be putting some 17s on with a little more cushioned tire.

as far as lug nuts go, Max's are 12x1.25, it does matter about the rims, because if the lugs are too big around, they wont fit in the holes in the rims. Your best bet is to go to a local place that sells rims and either take your rim in and compare lugs that they have to see which ones fit, or just take a couple samples from them so you can test them yourself. Most places know what you need when you tell them you need lugs for aftermarket rims(often called TUNER LUGS)

go with the spline tuner 12 x 1.25 lug nuts they work best with after market wheels and have there own key so it's a lil added safety

Your ride is not going to be the same with 18's because there is less tire and since there is less tire there is less air to absorb all those bumps. I have 18's with no aftermarket suspension (yet) and I could tell the difference in the ride the moment I put the rims on. However its not the rims it's the different tires. Remember it's your car, if you like 18's with no drop then that's you. If you want to change it then that's you. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. No matter what you do, somebody is gonna hate.

my buddy is running two of my 18's on the back on his stock maxima and IMO doesn't look too bad but there is the gap... even with them on it people will still look... I agree with sharkulator as far as the ride with 18's it's going to be a lil rougher. I have 2 stocks up front right now and they absorb the road better than the 18's but I wouldn't get rid of my rims for anything. I have the max speed lowering kit on my maxi check out page 2 of my cardomain for pics.
