airbag light blinking

Just started blinking a few days ago out of nowhere. I didn't think much of it until I took it to the dealer, they say that I need a new control module and quoted it at $2500. They also said that the airbags could just randomly deploy at any time... Not what I wanted to hear. Anyways, has this happened to anyone else? If so what did you do to fix it? How much $$ did it set you back?

ouch!!! what a price tag. I have a 98 i30 that does the same thing. Came with complete records as I can tell this has happened before. Replaced a module under warranty work @ the infiniti dealer. I've spoke with some mechanics and believe it's one of the sensors (pass. side in my case) for either the dashboard or the side impact bag. Either way it's one of the plugs under the pass. seat. not knowing enough about how to check them, I've left it alone to this point.
But I wonder, can you disconnect the battery and just 'test' the connections?

Wow, I can't stand how our cars are so predictable, as if Nissan designed everything to fail at a certain age. Yes, my 98 has the same problem. I had one module replaced under warranty because 60k was the determining factor. Now that I'm over 90k, about 3 months ago the light starting blinking.

I've gone through the reset procedure many times, mabye 10-12. I've found that the blinking stops when the weather is warm. That is, you leave the computer in the diagnostic mode, so it flashes an error code at you. When the temp gets warm, the blinking stops. It can stay away for weeks at a time. When the temp gets to 30 or so, it blinks again.

I've heard $800, but not $2500. C'mon now, the car is only worth around 6500, who's gonna spend 2500 on airbags?

Anyway, maybe you will find the same thing with your car. Just put your computer into diagnostic mode, and see if your blinking stops when the weather warms up. Again, put the airbag computer in diag mode.

To do it, sit in your car with the key in the off position, and your drivers door open. Turn the key to on. Quickly press your door switch in and out about 6 to 7 times, as fast as you can. Your airbag light should now blink a code at you. Leave it alone and see if it turns off--I can see no pattern, only that mine goes off with warm weather. My dad who is an electrical engineer thinks the temp makes sense, that it could be fine with warm temps, but ultimately it is a sign that it's failing. Good luck.

Great! If it comes back, just do it again. Like I said, mine will stay away for weeks, then come back, and all I can think of is outside temp. I do think something is probably wrong, but it's failing slowly. My thing is I hate to spend $800 or more until I know it's truly bad.....here's another thing that may or may not be related. Once I reclined the seat to take a nap, and then the light was gone! Not sure if stretching the wires out has anything to do with it.

Well, the procedure doesn't necessarily turn of the lamp, it only puts the computer into diagnostic mode. So instead of a steady flash, you'll get a code blinking back at you, like 2 slow flashes, then one fast flash. But what I am saying is when I do that, at some point, the light goes out eventually. If you leave the computer with the steady flashes or blinking, it wont ever go away because it wants you to check what is wrong.

So just put your computer in diagnostic and leave it that way. There's a good chance it will go away when the weather turns warm.
