Coolant puddle on the ground

Hey guys,

Lately, I am starting to get a puddle 6"-10" wide of coolant forming on the ground, this typically happens over a period of about 1-2 days of sitting. It looks like it is coming from somewhere near the oil pan, but I am not very sure. Does anyone have any suggestions on where this leak is coming from, and what I can do to fix it? The car has nearly 180k on it, so is it possible the water pump is going out on me?

Thank you!

-Rick

I recently had the same problem, though it was not as big a puddle. I was told to check the waterpump also but it was fine. It turned out to be the radiator leaking around the upper portion. The coolant was leaking and following the hoses and whatever else and making it look as though it was coming from under the car in the area of the water pump. Are you smelling any coolant while the engine is hot. PeP Boys will pressure check the sysytem for about $30. The radiator is pretty simple to replace....just a little messy with all the coolant....Good luck

Oh yeah, get under the hood and the car with a jack and flashlight when you see the coolant puddle and try and follow the drip back to the source

I know exactly what you are saying, rick98cobra. I have the same problem. I am sure that it is not my radiator or hoses, or even the thermostat housing. It has to be some seal near or around the water pump. Grrrrr. It doesnt happen all the time for me though. And it is just a leak about the size you described. Dripping off the oil pan at a rate of 1 drip per 5 seconds. Until it just stopped.
I probably will just change the waterpump this summer.
