Need some tips on performance parts for 4th Gen. Max

My fiance's birthday is right around the corner and he is a HARD core Max fan (like a 110%). So for his b-day present he wants somehting that will induce the performace level in a 4th Gen. Max. Anyone got ideas of what I might be able to get him?

Best babg-for-the-buck modification is a Y-pipe. They are about $175 shipped from www.budgetexhaust.com

Their site calls the "F" pipes, and their prices are in Canadian dollars...

Wow, marry me please. That is awesome. Everyone should have a fiance of your caliber. Well...

Y-pipe - "Best Bang For The Buck" as most will tell you. A replacement of a pipe connected to the engine and is part of the exhaust. Frees up exhaust flow due to the 2 pre-cats removed on the after market pipe. 10-15 horsepower is the usual gain. The Y-Pipe will cost any where from $200-350, all work well. I recommend the Warpspeed Brand Y-Pipe.

Intake - There are many types of air intakes available. YOu may want to go with either the Franken Car Hybrid Intake or the Injen Place Racing Division Intake. There is a lot of info on every intake available. 5-10 usual horspower gains. Intake range in price from $150-275. Thier performance gains are usually debated whether it is performance based or purely sound for the car.

Underdrive Pulley - Under drive pulley usually releases horsepower. It is a replacement to the stock pulley which is heavier. DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES PURCHASE A RVM PULLEY! Their parts are usually defective and cost me $1,000 in repairs due to the pulley literally breaking. Unorthodox Pulleys arew the pulley of choice but still greatly debated. 5-8 HP gains are the usual.

Rims/Wheels - Lighter wheels/ racing rims will improve performance due to reduction of weight.

Suspension - There are a variety of suspension product out right now. Gas struts are the weapon of choice at the moment. Lowering spring will vary in drop and stiffness of the overall ride.

MEVI - Mid Eastern Variable Intake - Long story short...V-Tec for Nissan. It is imported from Japan (Courtesy Nissan Parts had them at one point) Around $400-500 peak HP gains at redline but due to rev-limiter can not be fully taken advantage of unless aftermarket ECU is purchased.

ECU - This is car's onbaord computer. TechnoSquare and Jim Wolf TEchnologies both produce these covetted item. TechnoSquare improves acceleration and tourque which is great for weekend dragstrip racers; DOES NOT REMOVE REV-LIMITER. JWT does the same thing but is able to remove/by pass the rev-limiter therefore a common choice for the MEVI users. This will run any where from $400-600 depending on where and who you get it from. I suggest TechnoSquare because, how often will you be driving 140mph (a speed way over the rev-limit.)

A fellow member has a wonderfully useful webpage dedicated to Nissan Maxima performance parts. I believe his name is DrewM. Hopefully someone will be able to furnish that webpage to you, I lost the link so that would be equally helpful. Keep in mind there are a wide variety of performance enhancing parts that I have not mentioned, i.e. nitrous oxide, cam shafts, porting and polishing the heads on the car.

Please check out the FAQs at the top of this forum for performance and regular maintenance on the car. Good luck...Man he better be deserving of such a wonderful fiance. oh yeah....congrats

-Ryan

Just want to throw my two cents in. If you want to get him something nice and inexpensive, go for a Y-pipe. Gains are really only felt in the higher RPM range. If you want to get him something he can take advantage of more often, get him the ECU upgrade. Usually, it costs about $600 but there's a Group Deal going on through this forum that knocks the price down to $380.

Julie just like everyone has stated: go with the budget y-pipe. This is the best thing to get. Trust us!
