My Y-Pipe Rattles, My Y-Pipe Vibrates, What Should I Do?? What's Causing This??
Please make this a sticky if you dont mind. I know its kinda late but these kinda threads keep poping up every week and there are more people buying the y pipe.
If your WarpSpeed Y Pipe Keeps Rattling, If you feel the rattling near your transmission then you need to do the following:
Take your car to a muffler shop and have them take the clamp thats around the Cat Convertor off and have them bolt something else there instead to hold the cat convertor in place. This 100% gets rid of the rattling/vibrating issue.
The clamp that needs to be taken off looks like this :

why take it to the muffler shop? just jack up ur car and remove the bolts off the prongs. why waste gas driving to muffler shop, wait, have them touch ur car, pay up, and waste gas drive home?

1. jack up your car
2. remove the nut with a wrench
that's not being n00b. that's like the basic of the basic of the basic of the basic. can you please tell me which part is so difficult that requires the muffler shop to do it for you?
alrite i admit it's mai bad. cuz i just feel like it's sorta lame when maxima.org is already providing so much instruction and information regarding most bolt-ons, yet people can't take advantage of that and still take it to shops. it makes me feel even more depressed when a simple things like "remove the clamps off your cat" requires a shop to accomplish. then why need maxima.org? why become a postwhore in maxima.org? why complain maxima.org can't serve you better?
maybe that's why kev and jane disappear... how sad

I have a few quick questions...:
1. The noise that you are talking about, could it be described as the same noise that you hear when inside the car comming from right under the shifter area? I have that rattling sound, not always, but its there ever since I installed my warpspeed pipe
2. After you take off that cat bracket, is it necessary to replace it with a new one or put other brackets in its place?
3. Was the noise completely gone after this? Let me know cause the sound is driving me nuts!
Thanks!

yea i get the noise where it sounds like it comes from your shifter. thanks for the mini-write up and all, but i wouldliek to get this fixed and do it myself but your direction are not that easy to understand. for people who have little clue of what they are doing it needs to be alittle more detailed so we can have a direction on how to fix this. Not being a ****...just can you please make it alittle more descriptive?
you said "take the clamp thats around the Cat Convertor off and have them bolt something else there instead " could you use this peice and just put it back on? or take the sheild off the top of the cat?
yea this does need to be somewhere in a sticky of some sort.

Ok i didnt install the y pipe myself, i had a muffler shop do it but i saw most of the stuff they did.
The rattling that i was experiencing was noticeable in the transmission. like if you put your hand on the stick, you would easily be able to feel it. you would also be able to hear it easily too. mine was only rattling at about 3500 rpm and 2k rpm or during WOT.
so this is what i saw:
after i called warpspeed, they told me that i needed to take off the clamp around the cat convertor and then they decided to talk to the muffler shop owner since he was doing it, i dunno what they told him but i saw him taking off the clamp around the cat convertor(the one i posted a pic of) and this caused the cat to hang loosly, so he grabbed two pieces of metal that looked like capital "L" and bolted them to the car and the cat. these were about a 1/4" thick. thats all you gotta do....

That part is hella rusty....for a car with 30k. Mine with 120k has no rust like that on any part touching the exhaust. I don't know why you guys need to remove any parts when you install the y pipe. My cattman fit with no problems, and I did not have to remove any brackets.
Mine rattles bad, it has gotten better over the weeks. I emailed Dallas and he send me an exhaust hanger for free. When it gets in im going to throw it on. My Y pipe rattles against the flex section thus vibrating vs the chassis yielding a car that sounds like a ice maker in low gears. I dont even have the stock cat anymore, replaced it with the one from the wsp GD, so the heat shield wont fit and the clamps are gone. WHich is ok because the new cat has sort of a heat shield on it.
I have also read that the warpspeed y-pipe can hit the subframe of the engine! I paid the extra money for the cattman and the thing fit in like a dream, and I did not have to remove any brackets or heat shields! You get what you pay for.

That's kinda brutal. I know here in San Antonio some apartment complexes will not allow you to work on your car (even changing a flat) on their property. Also they are trying to enact some law that will not allow you to do any automotive work in your own garage driveway etc. I dont know if it has already been voted on or what but there are some rules out there that can make it hard to work on your own vehicle, especially in cities.

did removing ti help the rattling? i heard somewhere it did. i want to make sure though cause i do not want to go thorugh the trouble and it be worthless.
the rattling is not as bad is it was but i want to make this sounds normal inside the car again.
happyricefob-did wrapping work? did you do it yourself and is there any sort of write up for it?
