Have any of ever noticed how INACCURATE your fuel gauge might be?? Over the weekend I filled up my tank and put a new air filter in (man my accelartion feels so much smoother!) I did however notice that my gas guage was completely off. I drove all highway miles, put 116 miles since the fill up ,and the needle is a lilttle above the half tank mark. Usually i get at least 70-75 miles until it goes down the first quarter. What's causing this? How do you fix this??
I don't think you can fix it, but I've learned to live with it. Mine stays above full for like the first 60-75 miles. Then it starts dropping like crazy and it feels like I'm getting 10 MPG
Too bad I'm only getting about 16 MPG
Damn stop and go Chicago traffic

That is how normal fuel gauges are. I haven't driven a single car with an accurate gauge of this kind. But once you get used to it, you should have an idea of where you are, by looking at your odometer, rather than your gas tank... +/- for driving style and highway/city %.
Agree with speedemn. I have never seen a non-fluctuating gauge in any car. I am really suprised actually that Nissan doesn't have this gauge running through the ECU. I have seen other cars in which you can mesure the % of fuel in the gas tank with an OBD-II reader like the Auterra but that isn't the case, at least with my Max. Just goest to show you that Nissan ECU's aren't up to par.

My gauge doesnt come off full till about 100. I noticed this once I installed the indaglo gauges. Anybody else noticed this? Also when I fill up, it takes about 10 miles for the needle to register full.
I had a problem with my fuel gauge not reading full for about two years. I switched gas stations and use premium gas and noticed for the last 6 months, my fuel gague always reads full. This happened about two fill ups after I switched.
I was using SHELL for ever...may be the gas..not too sure but it is fine for me.

Yea, my gauge has never been accurate on the dot...but it seems as after I repleaced the air filter, its been completely off. Is there a sensor by the air box that I'm not aware about that might have came off??

116 highway miles using half a tank? omg thats horrible, did u fill it up all the way?
the fuel gauge is very inacurate and thats normal. when i fill up all the way, it stays above full for the first 60 miles. once i hit 60, it hits full and once i hit 90, it hits 3/4 full and starts dropping crazy.
i dont care what the fuel gauge says, i look at the miles i've driven !!
