Painted brake calipers and some new shots *pics*

Used Duplicolor Engine Enamel in red and clearcoat...5 coats of red, 2 coats of clear coat. Costed more than it should have bc I broke 3 wheel studs off the driverside front wheel. It was overtightened by the previous guy who I am never going back to again. That ends the "ghetto" appearance mods I will be doing, saving for the Stillen kit next ^_^

did you sand down the caliper and prime the caliper before you added on the paint? I've used metal cast duplicolor maroonish paint and I like hot it adds a nice touch, not too bright like the typical red but it's been on for a while and still looks clean.

I just did mine too. I love the little mods like this that are cheap. I always seem to have an abundance of time but lack of money. Why do you say they are ghetto? Just because its cheap doesn't mean its ghetto. I think the exterior of your max rocks. Don' waste all that $$$ on a kit. Only other exterior mod you need is tint and R/C's if you don't have 'em. Put that $1k+ toward something that makes you handle better or go faster or something.

They look great guys.

Do you guys every have trouble with the paint coming off after cleaning your wheels with chemical wheel cleaners?

Thanks for the comments guys

Broaner22- heh it's not really ghetto but that's just what I call all these cheap mods I've been doing . What are R/Cs? Tint is close to the bottom of my list of future mods right now Next thing going on will be a Y-pipe and hopefully in summer I will have the $$$ for the kit. I just really don't like the lines of the rear bumper/bodysides...not sporty or agressive at all. I've always been into car design so how it looks matters a lot to me. Handling other than new tires is pretty much done (I want SFCs tho).

jdm714- I took the center caps off bc I like the way it looks like this Some people don't know if I bought new wheels or they came with the car.

Maxima10to1- haha yeah I was too lazy to mask everything off and most ppl on the org painted everything so I just went ahead with it.

RobUsaf81- probably the scenario...we were driving around in a loud firebird at 3 am and they pulled us over with the excuse that we had no front plate...guess we just looked suscpicious

wariow-didn't prime...just sanded

I haven't had trouble...they've been through a coin-op wash with no problems. Brake dust has started collecting on them already tho..

By R/C's, I mean red clears. Good choice on a y-pipe. Concering the tint, I forgot that cali is so strict. If I lived in Cali I probably wouldn't have tint either. What are SFC's, tire type? I didn't prime either, just wire brushed and brake cleaner.

Your getting yours painted? I did even know that shops would do this. What a waste of money dude. Even if you fxcked it up the first time you could do it again for equal price of paying the shop and you would've learned.

Looks good, Luda.
I personally think the red on the black looks totally hot!
You did a good job.

I don't have a digital camera, or I would post some of mine for you to see. I did them the same time, and the same color. They turned out pretty good. Overall, I am pretty pleased at how they clean off and keep shining.

They show just the right amount through the stock wheels, I think.

Also, did you paint those wheels or have them powdercoated? They look good.

Luda, how you put that light into the side of your max for the turn signal? I like that. Looks very German like VW or Mercedes.

I painted mine bright red too, sometimes I feel like it's kinda tacky looking though because they are just stock calipers and I feel like I"m trying to make them look special...but for the guy who made this thread, the only thing I would change on your brakes, is that you painted the brake pad too. I would have just painted the actual caliper and not the pad, because the way it is now it looks like it was just painted over. But that's only my 2 cents.

Luda Nice job. oh yeah, I got my sidemarkers from autozone for like $6 bucks and put them on myself!! Wasn't hard. But I must admit...I was ****n my pants when I drilled that hole in car!! But it turned out great. I have had them on for a year now.

nupemaxima- I got genuine jdm Nissan sidemarkers so I wouldnt have to deal with the cheap quality of most aftermarket lights. I really didnt trust myself with cutting into the body at all you're a brave man lol.

JeffersonM- haha thanks dude

venompwr2- yep i will admit that it is kinda ricey to be painting stock calipers for the reason that they are stock and nothing special. Just wanted to dress up the rusty calipers a bit...ideally I would have gotten 300ZX front calipers but that's a bit further down the road.

SFC's huh? Planning on auto-xing or roadracing or what? You will need a kit to hide those bad boys. Yeah, in my first post I didn't bother to look at your homepage. Now I see the R/C's. I again say that your exterior looks perfect as is. The orange bulbs on a black max are hot. Good job painting but I would have gone with black. The black is glossy and clean and that is enough to dress it up. I noticed that your calipers are rustfree. Is that the way it is in Cali or are they new? If you guys never get rusty calipers I envy you for yet another reason. If they are just new I suggest painting those also(Black or grey) to further clean up behind your wheel.

No need to rub it in...im just a poor old college student

broaner- My calipers had some rust on them...had to sand it off but it still didnt completely come off. I would like to go into autocrossing for sure...me and some friends are planning on trying it out sometime. SFCs are probably gonna cause some ground clearance issues for daily driving tho

Thanks Jeff. Yep, they're SSR's and I love them. I have to give credit to Massacio for suggesting them to me. I love the polished caliper. Where did you get them? Or, if you did them yourself you have some real talent. Ahhhhhh, four pot calipers, me exploding in my pants.

Even thought they are 14.3 or so Ibs they still seem to be slowing me down. I might consider a set of K1 racing trackers in 15x7. Those bad boys are under 13 Ibs and only 15's and only $100. So two rims +DR's would make me a fair amount faster right. Anyone know how much are a set of good DR's and what type or size for my auto?
Luda, I would definitely worry about ground clearance with Sprints and SFC's. I don't know what driveways and speed bumps are like out there but if I did that I would be at snail speed 40% of the time.

Broaner, I polished them myself. Just to try something different vs painting. It took ALONG time because of all the nooks/crannies on the top portion of the caliper(not shown/cooling vanes). It didn't come out that shiney. I painted them with high temp clear and it dulled the shine a bit. But it was learning experience to do some basic noobie aluminum polishing.

I like them....quite the originals.

I think you are on the right track for wheels for what you are wanting, Broaner. I, personally, don't think 15" look that good on anything, but they sure are fast. he he.
