EGR Valve Replacement
EGR Valve Replacement
OK guys Im getting code 0304 and 0302 one is KS and the other is EGR. I've tried to do a search but the search function is disabled. I read the FAQ and Im looking for someone who has actually replaced the EGR. What was the cost? Where is it located? How hard is the install? I do NOT think it is an exaust leak although I do have a broken hanger that I am taking to get fixed MMonday and that will be check at that time.
Thanks

Here is another excellent thread regarding EGR valve:
http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....nifold+removal
Its not a fun repair. The space is very cramped. The valve is very costly (~180) if I remember. I'd explore all other possible solutions before trying it.
Go get a Haynes manual if you dont have one already ( I am like a broken record today)

egr valve replacement...check more into it
i just replaced my egr valve. i paid $101 from autozone and paid a mechanic $30 to intall it (i didn't have enough space...pain in the butt). The CEL went off for a few days but came back on. Come to find out, i needed a Egr Tube cleaning. The nissan stealership quoted me $600 so i gave them the finger and got a local mechanic to do it for $350. You might want to get someone to check that out for you. I think nissan is doing a courtesy 100 point check this month for free. i'm not sure if they're gonna charge for the CEL.

Let us know!...Jbk99sb replace his valve but CEL came on again..he is going to get his egr tubes cleaned..I am thinking of removing throttle body and cleaning
in and around/below that area first..I'll let you know my results later on.
I replaced my egr because of the same code and that did not fix my problem. I replaced all the rubber hoses on the egr and to the back pressure valve, the thingy right next to the egr. Removal was not that bad, I removed the air box and plumbing to the throttle body. After that it was easy to get to. I still have the code and have been looking for an answer but cannot find one on a resolution. My car shows no sign of any drivability issues except a slight decrease in mpg. I'm beginning to suspect the egr solenoid now.The haynes shows the location but the black and white pic is too dark so it's no use. Anyone know where it is shoot a digital and email me epaez@comcast.net.

Maybe this will help in clearing up our clogged egr tubes, which I believe is giving us the code 03/02

Got the valve and gasket in today. I installed it today, but haven't driven the car. I also resetted my ecu and cleared my code, so when/if i do get my CEL back on I'll let you guys know of the code. I checked my tubing and it was fine, so I didn't change any of my tubing. Taking out the egr valve wasn't that bad. The hardest part was loosening the big nut that was on it. Other than that, all you need is a deep socket 12mm and a 12mm wrench.

What "pipes" are you talking about? There is one small hard line on the egr and the other is the large one with the big nut, these are what you are talking about??

NO NO NO DO NOT REPLACE!!! I had a 0302 for about a year and finally went to the stealership the a few days ago and got the BG fuel/air induction service and that cleans out the egr system....reset ECU and WALLA, no more check engine light...the longest mine went out for was maybe a day but it would come back and now I have drove almost 300 miles in the days since i got that service and no check engine light.
This service cost $140 and is WELL worth it...it cleans the gaskets, induction, egr system and the intake manifold. Mostly a 0302 is detecting a leak/or stoppage in the system and 9/10 times the code comes up cause u have carbon build-up.
This service also has improved my performance GREATLY.....0302=bg induction service time!!

I have a same issue with my EGR but its pullin up the code 03 06...
I was gona try and clean it out tonight, but im kinda scared to concidering i dont really know were it is.. i have a chiltons manual and it really is NO help at all with this EGR crap...
Could someone take a picure of the EGR? and what hoses i should clean ? that would really help me out.. Or should i just replace the valve? i have looking the the stickies but there is only a dead link under code - 03 06.... so i cant even really know what the hell it means.. any ideas?

Hey...go to this link and make sure when you call the places that this cleaner runs throughly throughout the egr system and intake....for some reason different places have different kinds of this bg service...surprisingly the stealership said that this cleaning usually does help the 0302 code I had for over a year and amazingly i reset the comp and a week later still no CEL so im happy! Here is the link......make sure to put in ur zip and call around and just get it done...don't let them tell you that it won't help the 0302...they lie :-D

Your looking for a shop that offers the bg fuel/air induction service....like I said surprisingly the stealership might be ur best bet if you have the 0302 and dont let them talk you into checkin the 0302 cause they will lie and say u need a new egr valve or sum ****......GOOD LUCK and watch ur power get restored after this cleaning....it is awesome!

As for u XeroX unfortunately I don't know much about 0306 but chances are u might need a new valve or a through egr cleaning....the bg fuel/air induction runs through the engine and through the injectors gets them all cleaned and get the carbon buildup out of the intake and egr system (this makes black smoke come outta ur tailpipe for a bit.....such a big difference afterwords) but since u have a 95 u might need just the egr service where they actually take it all apart and get in the pipes and all that with tools....how many miles do you have?
Sorry I couldn't be more help but the egr cleaning by itself is about $225 since they have to take it all apart and stuff....but u might need a new valve....
-_-

Nick7455- you mention something about your car performing better after you cleaned out the carbon deposits. are you completely sure ?
i have had 03/02 code for a long time, and with the upgraded ecu and plugged egr in the hot weather it will make the car ping.
if you say you could tell the car was faster, i will get this fixed immediately .. lol ! i have left it like it is thinking my car is stronger with it plugged. but its possible the knock sensor will pull timing and slow me down.
great thread by the way

did you ever get this done?? i am in the middle of it right now and it sucks. any tips?
i dont know if this helps any of you 95 guys since the 99 egr is different somehow.
i got to my egr by removing the tb and intake(hai) for more room and disconnected all the harnesses and hoses around it for more room(im a large individual)
there should be two screws at the bottom of the egr that fasten it to the engine/block
when i removed my egr play with it and it will come apart into two or three main pieces by removing two screws and prying lightly apart. i then used carb cleaner and compressed air to loosen and remove all the carbon. there was plenty in there and i have the undershirt i was wearing to prove it.
clean the two small holes at the top(you should be able to blow in oneside and feel the air coming out the other)
the same applies when you push down on the spring and put air in that hole, it should come out the bottom hole(when spring is compressed)
this solved my egr stoppage, its been 400 mi since i reset the ecu after the work
i also sprayed some carb cleaner in the metal pipe that comes from the exhauset outlet below the engine to the egr.
good luck
