MEVI installed....NICE!!!!

Well yesterday Slammed95 and I decided to install a MEVI on my car. I must say this really good mod. Yesterday night when we finished, we were not able to do the wiring. So we did a couple of runs with the MEVI closed and two open. I noticed that the intake tone is quieter and deeper.

With the MEVI closed the whole rev range felt smooth but lacked top end. But it felt somewhat better than the US manifold. Although I miss the 3k rpm grunt of the US manifold.

With MEVI zip tied open the bottom end sucked till 4k, that’s when it felt like it pulled. I started from a roll in 2nd gear like at 5k RPM and went WOT then car pulled to redline fast. I was amazed how much better the top end is.

With everything wired up... The power delivery feels smooth and linear, unlike the us manifold which had great mid range and sucky top end. I set the switch over point to 5300 RPM. I just pulled a rpm out of my ****, and it seems to work well.

The bad: When I wind up 1st to 6550 RPM and shift into second, the RPM drops me like around 4k which doesn’t pull as hard. But it’s not that bad it’s livable.

I have a couple of questions. I used a Harlan RPM switch. Is it OK to leave it connected to the battery, so that it stays on all the time?

What are your rpm switchover points?

5400 here...

how you like that ball shaped vac. tank? It mounts pretty good to the fuse cover just infront of the battery. Try it there. Post a pic of it as well. I wanna see what a MEVI looks like.

congrats!!! I'm hoping in the near future i can get were you are.

I don't know about the switch wouldn't that be bad. I mean if you were to connect it to the battery wouldn't the switch drain the battery after a while? Just a question for anybody, i'm looking to purchase MEVI too.

-Yes, it's ok to leave the harlan on constant power (had mine like that for over 2 yrs, still works).

-5200 rpm switchover (5000rpm switchover off throttle, using a VAFC II now)

Glad you like it.

I use 5300-5400 activation. I don't know for sure because I use the summit switch and it looks to be 5.3 or 5.4 tach indicated. I did a bunch of different runs at the track one day to see what gave me the best trap speed and I found this setting to work the best.

I know what you mean on the up shift being kinda week and falling at too low of an rpm. That is what the JWT ECU is all about.

I use a 5300rpm switchover and can hear the induction noise change at around 5500rpms so I imagine the switchover is occuring in the 5400rpms range or so. Like Mike, I've seen my best runs with the activation at 5300-5400rpms.

As for leaving the rpm switch on all time, I wouldn't do it. Just wire into something that is a switched 12v source. The switch holds it's settings without any power.

With no ECU, the MEVI sure does take away the fun on WOT shifts. I remember the days of shifting at 6500rpms and landing way low in the rpms. God that sucked. The car just felt doggish especially on the 1-2. That all changed with the JWT ECU

Cool alfonso!!! part of the mevi pack now....I am amazed how many ppl are doin this mod. as for the rpm switch, I would not run that thing 24/7( reputation of Harlan being problematic)..why don't you open up the hard red wire goin in the coils?

Hooks up just like the SAFC. Only difference is there is no knock sensor wire and inorder to activate the vacuum switch you have to run the VTEC output wire (pink wire) out to the positive side of the switch.

Thanks guys for your input. I'll go ahead and wire the Harlan switch to + /- of one of the coils.

So with a raised rev limit, let say 7k RPM. On the 1-2 shift will the rpm land around 5k?

Thanks!

I've had my VI sitting around since October, just need to find a weekend to install it. I'm also waiting on Technosquare to release their ECU w/ raised revs.

How long did it take you to do the install?

With my 7K limiter, I land the 1-2 around 4700rpms and the 2-3 at around 5000-5100rpms.

Thanks Dave!

One thing that I have noticed too with the vi, is that the engine feels like its not being pushed. It goes to redline with no problem. With the stock manifold after 6.2K RPM's the engine sounded like it was going to explode.

Yep, the intake noise becomes softer and more refined. Winding it out to 7000rpms sounds perfect. Gone is the blarring wail at 6000+ rpms.

Parts needed to install the MEVI

I was looking at the MEVI from Courtesy Nissan the other day and it says that there are other parts needed to get the thing to work. I was just wondering if someone could list what those parts are since i am considering getting one and would need all off the stuff to make it work . Ive done some reading up on it and i understand the Harlan RPM switch is one of them, but i guess there are quite a few. Thanks for any helps.

I did about 20 Dyno runs when I was NA with the Harlan switch.

The best switchover point is 5000 on an Auto, 5200 on a 5spd.
