Help deciding on OEM or aftermarket clutch and flywheel
Help deciding on OEM or aftermarket clutch and flywheel
I'm at the point where gathering all the parts for 5 speed conversion.
And I need to decide whether to go straight to aftermarket clutch and flywheel to save time and money.
The reason i'm also considering OEM is because I haven't driven MT cars yet.
I know how to work it but don't have experience on it.
So I thought if i can't drive it good, i might end up trashing the parts.
so what you guys think?
Should i go straight to performance clutch and lightned flywheel?
or just go used OEM and get some experience on it.
any comments are welcome

How hard is it for unexperienced driver to drive a car with performance clutch and lightened flywheel?
I hear many people who have upgraded to performance clutch from OEM says they still have hard time launching from stop sometimes.

I'm not asking for difference between OEM and aftermarket based on performance.
i guess i'm just gonna go aftermarket.
I would go OEM. I bought my 5-speed 1999 Maxima two months ago, and I had very little experience driving stick before then. It's hard enough learning with a broken-in OEM clutch. A brand new OEM clutch (grabs hard) will be tougher to learn on, and a brand new aftermarket clutch (grabs very hard) will be tougher still.
So go with the OEM. Also, many 5-speed owners on the Org prefer OEM to any aftermarket clutch, even for racing.
I assume you've been to this page: http://maxmods.dyndns.org/index.php?MaximaClutches

anybody else??
Well, I can tell you that my ACT makes even some of my experienced friends have trouble. (until they get used to it, that is)
When I first got the clutch I used to bet people they'd stall out when they first drove it. I usually won
